Having listened to this album a few times I have decided that it is very good and that they deserve the name HEALTH. Tabloid Sores is extra good and sounds like a band who should have a better name than health even though it is a good name

Lost Time is kinda scary.

This album is kinda folky and kinda synthy. Not so noisy, certainly not so boredoms-ey(e)

There is lotsa good songs on it and stuff though.

I give it a 4.83 out of 5

I'm going to copy Boredoms, Liars and Ex Models and sprinkle it with a little something I heard on an electro blog so you give me a 5 out of 5.

I doesn't sound anything like Ex-Models, it sounds a tiny bit like Liars, and only sounds like Boredoms at first. It sounds more like This Heat than anything else I think. Also it is fun. And if you dance to it you have to know when to stop dancing. This is always an important skill however.

So stop whinging.

And the "It just sounds like (x) mixed with (y)" is such a boring, useless criticism.

btw they have a new single and it sounds kinda like Linkin Park at first and then really pretty. I am v. excited about new album, I hope they go all Peter Gabriel and self title it.

I'm not sure which single sounds like Linkin Park, but this new new one - "Die Slow" - is pretty great. There's some serious MBV-aping happening in it, but it's very pretty.

Are they really morphing toward a more MBV-type sound? Seems odd for this band (tho preferable to morphing toward a more Linkin Park-type sound).

Not really reminding me of MBV, though I get where ppl are coming from on that front. To me the swirls of white noise on Loveless sound really glacial and synthetic and sugary, whereas this is a lot sparser and warmer sounding, still think the synths sound like Numb/Encore, like REALLY like Linkin Park, but the rest of it sounds a lot like the outros of a couple of Super Æ tracks, I got a lot of time for this guy's lady vox also. Still digesting tho lol brb, so far pretty awesome tho!

Kinda realised that I can listen to this whole album without realising how fast time has gone by but not remember anything either, not sure if that is good or not

it does all blend together, but so far i think it's a good thing. there are points throughout that really get my attention, and the more i listen to this album, the more i come across.

lol. No; I'm curious about the new disc. Not anxious to hear Health sounding more like Linkin Park, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Single Die Slow is pretty stand out, maybe they're taking a leaf out of Black Dice's books and trying to sound a bit Big Beat, but this does sound like it's MBV trying to jack Setting Sun. It's all very floaty yet insistent and ends up with a sound palette that is a bit like Hybrid Theory played off a third generation tape copy. Really the Linkin Park thing is me trying to get at the fact that this sounds a lot less like the hipster friendly references that will get lobbed at it, because unlike the last one, the Boredoms copping only feels residual, the MBV thing is only true inasmuch as it's got a lot off static and white noise in the mix, Liars a little maybe, but really they sound a bit like a band that would be playing in the background of the bronx. In fact, what JAMC were to the Ronnettes, these guys are to a million nobody cared 90's alternative bands and really I keep thinking of this song Swallow by nearly rans Skindive (srsly give this song a listen I used to be completely in love with it and hadn't thought of it until Nice Girls came on and brought the whole thing flooding back):

If that's not selling it for you, and I'll admit I wasn't really trying very hard, Death + sounds a bit like This Heat being fronted by Bilinda butcher, it's got that same lopsided industrial take on Kraut, but it's aerated, feminine and gauzy. In fact if this is the direction they're moving in I'll be very happy, that is, spazzed out post-punk minimalism by way of 90's pussy goth.

no! they ARE awesome. i am currently listening to get color while drinking orangina (made exclusively from the vagina of the orange). excellent combo.

I haven't spent much time with it yet, but there's so much life and energy in the new disc.

Get Color has jumped onto my year's top-10 after two listens, thanks to mentions on the P4 and PopMatters polls. The influence of Wire is all over this: the guitar sounds (are those even guitars) are lifted off the Read & Burn EPs, the vocal presence and melodies is Colin Newman, there's a song that could have fit on The Ideal Copy, and the most audible difference is that HEALTH's (that's how they want is capitalized, it seems) has a hot-shit drummer, whereas Gotobed shrank from light.

More people should here this before 2009 is consigned to the history books.

Not saying Gotobed was bad, he was just more motorik and less flamboyant. He was content to be the canvas.

haven't listened to it yet, but am interested. i'm not a huge video game player, but i'd be interested in hearing how their music worked within the context of the game.

when i saw that they were doing this it reminded me of the linkin park discussion that happened upthread.

Only "Tears", which appears in the promo video, is really like their prior work. The soundtrack album is otherwise instrumental, with their excellent drummer playing Brazilian (as is the game's setting) percussion at the forefront.

Not much difference with Get Color on the pop accessibility front, the most notable change to my ears are the drums are pushed up in the mix, and way more aggressive on around half the tracks.

really not digging the mix on this. i could def get behind an even more tuneful/vox-focused HEALTH, but it feels like every time they want to bring something noisier into it there's no no punch. maybe i have a bad rip idk, that would be a pleasant surprise.

maybe a bad rip? the noisy bits seems punchy enough on the vinyl pressing. the vocals are high in the mix but it's meant to be a pop record i reckon.

Yeah, this is album I come back to a lot.

His vocals oscillate somehow between New Order and Placebo.

Liking the music but the fey vocals really grate

New album seems pretty solid, not hugely different from the last one, maybe a bit heavier.

Vol 4 doing it for me right now. Up to this point I'd only listened to SLAVES OF FEAR a million times, but the rest of the album is solid.

I have a subwoofer in my living room but not my kitchen, and out of all the music I've listened to it - including a LOT of dance music - this is the album that showed the biggest quality difference with/without a sub.
