Ian they played NYC - July 4th at North6).

I was living in Providence then! I just moved to NY in late August for school. Lame school, at that.

(CHILDISH JOY IN THE LITTLE THINGS MODE ON)

Yeah, you know, the guy that looks like a tramp.
Classic.
And that beard? Wow!

you're an idiot.

hstencil, Monday, 1 December 2003 21:20 (twenty years ago) link

Jesus, those photos are awesome, Mei... thanks

That Ted Leo cover of the Lungfish tune just got issued on CD for the first time on the split with One AM Radio. It's really pretty. He was playing it live on some of his recent solo shows (or at least the instore I saw at Amoeba in LA)

I think my fave Lungfish song is "Abraham Lincoln" from Rainbows from Atoms.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Monday, 1 December 2003 22:12 (twenty years ago) link

hstencil can i post this to the "positive contributions" thread?

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:15 (twenty years ago) link

well, he is kind of a tramp guy.

and "abraham lincoln" is a rad song. also from rainbows from atoms: "Mother Made Me"

aiiieeeee

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:33 (twenty years ago) link

no you can't jess, sorry. And I'm sorry if it seems a little cranky, but seeing Daniel Higgs described as a "tramp guy" ranks high up in the list of the stupidest things I've read on ILM (and that's saying something).

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 04:43 (twenty years ago) link

But he looks like a tramp!

mei (mei), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 08:01 (twenty years ago) link

And I _am_ an idiot ;-)

mei (mei), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 08:03 (twenty years ago) link

yeah well I just think it's insulting to call him that.

hstencil, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 08:15 (twenty years ago) link

Maybe he's not an ordinary tramp.
Hey, maybe he's one of those special CIRCUS BALANCING TRAMPS!!!

Okay enough!

I am only joking you know, please don't take me seriously.

More Pics, Mei! More!
You don't see enough Lungfish shots for my money.

one month passes...
they're playing in NYC on Thursday @ northsix.

Side by Side Comparison: Love is Love is way more optimistic and cheery than Necrophones, but not as musically varied. (which is the real weak point, because Lungfish albums sans instrumentals have gotten increasingly poor as time goes along; need a little palate cleanser now and then.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 31 January 2004 21:33 (twenty years ago) link

*ahem* Is anyone going to this? I still haven't met a single NYC ILX personality! In six months of living here!

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:06 (twenty years ago) link

i would really like to but no money. they were one of the best live bands i've ever seen.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago) link

I might be three thousand miles away from the action now but it was worth clicking on this again for the photos, and hstencil's ludicrous overreaction subsequently

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

five years pass...

I wish I had grabbed these pictures when they were still up here. I have been on my seemingly annual Lungfish kick lately. One of my favorite bands ever.

Shannon Whirry & the Bad Brains, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:19 (fifteen years ago) link

they were the highlight of the flaming lips atp that i went to freshman year of college, by a long shot

Wait, was that the one at the Queen Mary in Long Beach? I saw them at that one. I can't remember if Flaming Lips played, though.

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Monday, 16 March 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago) link

space orgy

eman, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:41 (fifteen years ago) link

the singer has a new thing out, all solo banjo pieces

eman, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:42 (fifteen years ago) link

My main memories of that show concern how wrong it felt watching the Cramps play in a lovely green field in the sun. And how much I hated the guy from the Shins, who conducted all between-song banter in a wacky hip-hop "izzle" voice as a "tribute" to the "LBC." Prick. But there's so many bands there I would LOVE to see now that I don't think I really appreciated that much!

Oh, and, yes, Lungfish ruled. I've been lucky to see them a bunch of times - twice with Fugazi at First Avenue in Mineapolis, once at Brownies in NYC with Quix*o*Tic, a couple times in D.C...

Shannon Whirry & the Bad Brains, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, his solo Jaw Harp album is really great! (I think it's called Magic Alphabet - I got it on eMusic, I think...)

Shannon Whirry & the Bad Brains, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link

the zomes record is pretty good too. got to see them open for brightblack morning light. just the guitarist and two others playing cheap organs over rhythm tape loops

This is really good! Pretty raw compared to Necrophones. Anyone else digging it?

It is great, but I am a huge fan. Lungfish is all I want to hear sometimes.
