Killing a grizzly bear with a melee knife was stressful.

99.8%

Bounty missions starting to get on my nerves trying to find the last 2 locations.. Getting a lot of repeats too. =\

I have tried the disarm six guys thing so many times but I am terrible at it. Always wind up shooting them in the arm or something.

Can't see myself ever getting 100%, I just don't have enough time. Maybe cos of those damn red balloons in Vice City, I was one short & spent hours retracing my steps trying to find the one I'd missed. Never again...

Bill E, Monday, 28 June 2010 03:46 (thirteen years ago) link

100%! My life has meaning.

w00t!

so how did you go about the sharpshooter level ten, that's been doing my nut a bit.

ha i never got that last balloon either, sometimes i load it up just to have a look. one day..

Guru Meditation (Ste), Monday, 28 June 2010 08:24 (thirteen years ago) link

so the dead-eye auto reload doesn't count as a reload for sharpshooter 10? that'll make it easier.

postcards from the (ledge), Monday, 28 June 2010 09:06 (thirteen years ago) link

I also 100%'d last night.

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 28 June 2010 16:20 (thirteen years ago) link

tried one of the advanced co-ops last night. kind of fun, really really really hard. i dunno how anybody plays with expert targeting on...

The mine is great for it because everyone is always right in front of you, and pretty close. Also, lots of moonshine.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 28 June 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I cheated a bit for the sharpshooter lvl 10. Theres a youtube video about it where it basically suggests going into a crowded saloon and opening fire on everyone.

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 28 June 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

For those co-op missions do you have to have a team of 4 all ready to go, or can you just jump in randomly with 3 other players? Seems I'm never online at the same time as anyone else I know & would be keen to give them a try.

Bill E, Monday, 28 June 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

You can do 'em with randoms.

I wanted to shoot the revolutionary that you had to rescue for louisa

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 20:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i wanted to shoot basically everyone you worked for. except maybe for the wild bill character, he could have been a sweet sidekick

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i really hated the necrophiliac treasure hunter dude. he seemed like a guy john marston would put out of his misery on principle.

goole, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 21:47 (thirteen years ago) link

after doing a bunch of missions last night i thought i'd treat myself to a stagecoach back to town. except, i tried to get in on the wrong side, which meant i accidentally coach-jacked the dude. cue mid-speed chase, giving myself up, jail time, etc. there should be an apology button.

emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 21:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I hated the professor guy most of all.

haha I have done this soooo many times

Bill E, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 21:59 (thirteen years ago) link

it seems like the writers forget what john's motivation is half the time. he has to put up with these useless assholes because they are instrumental to getting the job done and getting your wife back. but half the time your attitude is like, "hey, zany character of the frontier, i will run around w/ u." and it's not really clear why these guys are necessary since you're tromping all over and killing dozens of people a minute anyway.

goole, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 22:02 (thirteen years ago) link

the stranger missions are worse, they're all like some really sick horribly formed joeks. hey get these flowers for my wife. oh she's dead lol! today's my wedding day - to a guy who died years ago lol! i've gotta get to california - oh i'm dead lol!

postcards from the (ledge), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 23:41 (thirteen years ago) link

btw got my sharpshooter 10 in macfarlane's ranch, picking on poor innocent cowpokes. advantage being that they don't get another gun once you've disarmed them, and it's pretty quiet there so you also don't get half a dozen other guys trying to put lead in you just for drawing your weapon.

it seems like the writers forget what gta iii guy tommy nikojohn's motivation is half the time. he has to put up with these useless assholes because they are instrumental to getting the job done and killing your ex-girlfriend getting all the drugs settling in America getting your wife back. but half the time your attitude is like, "hey, zany character of liberty city vice city liberty city the frontier, i will run around w/ u." and it's not really clear why these guys are necessary since you're tromping all over and killing dozens of people a minute anyway.

I'm up to 85.1% now after playing for roughly 22 hours. All storyline missions complete, all areas discovered, all treasures found and all gang hideouts cleared. To get my 100% I still need to complete the stangers tasks and collect all the bounties which are straightforward enough but I'm afraid I'll never get 100% because I just can't win any of the minigames for the life of me. I haven't got a clue what's going on with Liar's Dice and Horseshoes seems more luck than anything else. I'll probably spend another week or so trying to get to 100% then knock it on the head.

However I spent an hour last night in multiplayer for the first time, had a great time clearing gang hideouts with some guy who invited me to join his posse. So I think that even if I give up on the singleplayer, there's still plenty of life left in this game with the multiplayer.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 13:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Got 100% last night, 38 hours. Horseshoes: aiming with left trigger is u+k. liar's dice: stick to low gambles and let them make the first stupid move. Poker is a bit harder but the NPCs are pretty wimpy so you can generally bully them into folding.

postcards from the (ledge), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 14:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Horseshoes: aiming with left trigger or right trigger, whichever gives you the zoomed in view.

I played this game all the way through and never got the random event where the nun gives you the take-less-damage cross! My brother got it like 2 hours into his game. :(

Dan I., Tuesday, 6 July 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

there's a couple of random events i've only got once, and i've been playing this waaay too much.

there's one where someone comes up to you asking about a stagecoach that's gone missing. pretty sure you have to find it, kill everyone, then drive it back. but i fucked it up and have never seen it again. too much fast traveling probably.

goole, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 18:03 (thirteen years ago) link

man, i get that one all the time. i'm itching to get another "save my friend from an unjust hanging!" one since i fucked it up twice now.

finally got to mexico btw! it was nighttime though, so riding around with that jose gonzalez song playing wasn't as cinematic as i was hoping for.

finally made it to blackwater and set about KILLING EVERY ANIMAL I SAW

last night i got the achievements for killing all the animals, for killing all the buffalo, and for fistfighting in bars.

Who'd have known that you get a wanted level for killing a mangy dog wandering round the streets? Didn't even stop to skin it :(

ran into my first bug last night, i was doing that landon ricketts mission where you are supposed to rescue the girl from the cave. right when the butcher distracts the guards and you're supposed to run in there, my dude starts running into a wall and won't take no for an answer. couldn't shoot, turn around, stop running, anything. i was messing around with the subtitle settings right beforehand, i wonder if that broke the game.

emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Monday, 19 July 2010 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

During the game, the players were allowed to take a 10-minute break every hour for humanitarian purposes — to use the restroom and eat.

What a waste of time. I'd be levelling a Tauren warrior tank on Warcraft with those hours. Probably get it to 80, too.
