It was ironic, in a way, that it would be the Daily Caller that published e-mails from Journolist. A few weeks ago, its editor, Tucker Carlson, asked if he could join the list. After asking other members, I said no, that the rules had worked so far to protect people, and the members weren't comfortable changing them.

Hi Tucker - I'm interested in the remarks you made today about Iran; specifically, that it "deserves to be annihilated" ( http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/02/22/430302/tucker-carlson-iran-annihilated/ ). I have a few questions about that:

(1) Do you have any specific ideas for how Iran should be annihilated? Do you favor a ground invasion, or a nuclear attack, or carpet bombing or something else? I realize you included the caveat that we should assess what effect it would have on energy prices, but assuming that's not an impediment, how should the annihiliation be achieved?

(2) Given your history of being a vocal proponent of American wars, have you ever considered enlistening and fighting in any of the wars you favor? I'm not suggesting that's an obligation for war advocacy: i'm just genuinely curious if you have considered it, and if so, why haven't you done it?

(3) When formulating your thoughts about annihilation, did you give any thought to how many Iranians would be killed from that? Do you have any idea of how many would die? Is there some number that's unacceptable to you?

Assuming all of the allegations in the article are true, Carlson and Coglianese fail to do one important thing. They do not rebut or even attempt to rebut any of the reporting that Media Matters has made regarding inaccurate or misleading comments in conservative media.

I don't understand why he would apologize over this or why anyone would expect him to. Who exactly would he be apologizing to? His viewers? His viewers agree with him

I can't find it now but will look again later, but I saw a clip on youtube arguing that Leftist guests going on Tucker's show to use his platform are themselves being used by Tucker as a gateway to reach younger viewers. Tucker's no dummy, will give him that, and he knows his 'economic populist' argument can hit a chord outside his target audience. I'm on the fence about this, the almost fawning reception he gets from the likes of Jimmy Dore (and Glenn Greenwald) is dispiriting. Kulinski will be critical of Tucker on his show, but did give me pause for thought still - if you use a master propagandists platform, is there a price to pay (Tucker obviously thinks so, he never battles or interrupts his leftists guests, they have all the time in the world)

Ultimately, I think the value of going on outweights the price, but Tucker is an insidious operator, hmm

I think to an extent, even if its just to bolster and solidify the optic. Obviously its still a win in so much that he did the interview, but as to whether it delivered what might have been hoped for, I think it was a miss

i listened to this. it was stupid. putin's arguments about russia's historic right to control ukraine based on events in the 1300s are not going to convince anyone it was fine for him to start a destructive war there.
