I'm liking this more with every listen, it's addictive. My favourite part of it is the shimmering synth on the chorus(es). It's buried beneath so many layers (vocals, brushed drums, bassline) that is barely noticeable, yet it provides the harmonic backbone that makes the chorus so catchy.

Cool, I guess. I like the cover to Chemistry.

Daavid, did you get the mp3 up above?

Who the hell do you THINK I am? I'm the goddamn Batman! (Barima), Sunday, 20 November 2005 22:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes, thanks Barima. I liked it, although I didn't really think it sounded much like Biology. I'll have to listen to it a couple more times though, because its also very layered.

Even though this song is one of my favorite singles of the year, it has what is without question the lamest attempt to alter the pronunciation of a word in order to make it rhyme that I've ever heard (worse than "...you and I should get along so aw-ful-LY" even!). Yep, right there in the chorus they try their hardest to make "controversy" somehow rhyme with "biology" and "in front of me", but it JUST DOESN'T WORK!!

Unless of course this is a British thing and that's actually how they pronounce the word over there in which case forget everything I just said and then some.

I didn't really mean to imply it should, but both are electro-inflected Sparksian dreampop-rock numbers that are practically in the same tempo. They don't sound very alike, but you can swap lyrics over and call 'em remixes (in my head anyway).

I'm not even going for comparisons, they've just both become intertwined in my mind.

Yes, that's how 'controversy' is pronounced in Britain. Possibly why the Prince song never caught on.

Finally managed to pick up a copy of the "bumper fan pack" CD single of "Biology" here in the hinterlands of the U.S. of A. I skipped the ringtones, karaoke mix, video game, and bonus Girls Aloud Linux installation for your Mac or PC, and watched the video, which, as someone upthread noted, features some of the worst, most out-of-sync "dancing" from a manufactured pop group that I have ever seen. I'm a little surprised that the Girls, who have otherwise achieved pop perfection, have failed to master this most basic of girl-group skills. Still love 'em though - their klutziness on the dance floor is sort of endearing.

their klutziness on the dance floor is sort of endearing.

This is precisely why Biology is my favorite GA video. It is also not as raunchy as most of their videos.

um, the Biology video is deliberately kitschy/naff - with housewife-style voguing.
Girls Aloud are terrific dancers...

um, the Biology video is deliberately kitschy/naff

From those I've seen (The Show, Long Hot Summer, Biology) all of their videos are deliberately kitschy/naff.

otm. the 'biology' vid is almost genius, it's the kind of thing k-punk would like, but j-u-u-u-st falls short.

it seems that the girls are getting quite a bit of critical kudos in the uk. (ive actually only seen two guardian reviews and a blogger made list of "important bands".)does anyone think there is a possibilty that many american magazines/webzines will do so as well? not really affecting chart success in the US but at least maybe creating a heightened awareness of girls aloud?

thirteen years pass...

This song = still fucking amazing.

So much fuss has been made over the years about the Spice Girls and their various reunions. They had some great songs, but Girls Aloud were so much better.
