p.s. in case anybody cares, now that I have some downtime, I'm pursuing a few other markets, sure, but last night I also started on my novel, a Canadian version of Count of Monte Cristo where in the end everything is resolved through compromise.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:25 (twenty years ago) link

Haha.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:26 (twenty years ago) link

It's exciting to see Horrace on the thread! And Chris P once again. And Kate! And everyone else. (Please attribute all these exclamation points to my two cups of a coffee and one Barq's in the past few hours)

Meeting with the bandmates went really well. We had loads of fun. They are getting a band van, painting it with their new band logo to look a bit like the Mystery Machine, and getting set up so they can practice IN the band during work lunch breaks. Crazy.

Nick and I signed the lease for the new apartment! YAY! MORE KISSES!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:26 (twenty years ago) link

We had a xmas lunch today with massive amounts of pasta and wine, so now I am falling asleep, so my coworker went on a Starbucks run so that we would be caffeinated, but now I'll just crash when I get home and I'm supposed to be packing. OH WELL.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:29 (twenty years ago) link

Nick and I signed the lease for the new apartment! YAY! MORE KISSES!

Rock! You is flat-owners and tis all good....though the cold now must be frightening.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:29 (twenty years ago) link

I think we just had an earthquake! We all felt a rumbling and shaking, went out of the building to see if there was a truck, and people were coming out of other buildings, then one lady's son called from elsewhere in Richmond and had felt it too!

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:02 (twenty years ago) link

Earthquakes are k-sexy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:03 (twenty years ago) link

!!!!!

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:04 (twenty years ago) link

Earthquakes are totally fun until someone loses an eye!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:07 (twenty years ago) link

This was more of a tremor really, it really felt like a big truck driving by outside, just kind of a vibration and a vague rumbling.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:09 (twenty years ago) link

I felt it too. Now I can say I've been in one. Everyone else thought it must be the HVAC system (yes, the HVAC is that bad here!).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:36 (twenty years ago) link

They're saying it was a 4.5 on the Richter scale, and the center was 30 miles west of Richmond.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:41 (twenty years ago) link

Awww, aren't y'all cute?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:44 (twenty years ago) link

No, seriously, that had to have been interesting.., I don't even think about them now.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:45 (twenty years ago) link

I've only been in one before, in India, which was worse (it woke us up at night), but even with that one there was no destruction, not even any stuff falling off walls or anything. This one was fun.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:48 (twenty years ago) link

Fun?? NA, are you suffering from post-move lag?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:52 (twenty years ago) link

You mean pre-move?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:57 (twenty years ago) link

I thought you already moved? He hasn't yet?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:13 (twenty years ago) link

I haven't much time to post on here tonight, nor have I had much time to read this thread, but I want to warmly welcome those of you who are new to this thread, to this thread. I can remember Kate, Archel, and Horace, namely, but if there have been more, I apologize and welcome to you too. Bravo, and here's to more dropping of pretenses and just being genuine and "salt of the earth"-type people from time to time.

Tomorrow is a huge day for me. Please wish me well on it. I will attempt to explain further either by the end of the day or by Thursday, whenever I can next post or chat or whatever. Here's to hoping tomorrow proves to be fantastic for the rest of you as well.

I leave you with one of my favorite screen shots of all time:

Having a fun little crush on someone for over 10 years: Classic or classic?

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 05:05 (twenty years ago) link

Classic of course. I should develop more celebrity crushes. Hmm.

Good luck with tomorrow, Dee.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 05:36 (twenty years ago) link

My celebrity crushes never seem to last past the credits. The only current exceptions, really, are Maggie Gyllenhaal (and I'm not sure how true that is), Tina Fey, and Nicky Hilton in a weird way.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 05:40 (twenty years ago) link

hey, i finally figured out how to get those Marissa Marchant. A Winner is--*

wait, nevermind.

Kingfish Beefstick (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 05:52 (twenty years ago) link

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 06:44 (twenty years ago) link

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:24 (twenty years ago) link

Morning bella - how are you?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:27 (twenty years ago) link

Hey darl' what are you still doing up? feeling better? I am good today thanks. It's my boy's b/day on Sat, so I am looking forward to that & then I've got some time off next - woop woop!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

Oh and I just got a big parcel from Amazon. Sadly all presents & nothing for me, but I will definitely benefit from some of the pressies! No Sir, not an Indian giver me!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:31 (twenty years ago) link

These "This is the thread where I say" threads are wildly successful, and I still have no idea what they are for. You all seem to have stopped talking in italics, which I thought was somehow the point of the first one. So what are they? What's going on? Is it like a chat room for people who can't be arsed to figure out how AIM works?

Dan I., Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:31 (twenty years ago) link

This thread moves so fast I feel bad cause I can't keep up with it, and with you all, and most of it happens while I'm at home or asleep. But it still makes me glad that it exists. And hi right back at you people! :-)

Kate 22 (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:34 (twenty years ago) link

Hey from me! I'm sure ol'-ILX would disagree, but the 80-odd posts I've read on this thread since I left yesterday are what I read ILX for. Go TITTY team!

Horace, good going fella. I'm glad it's over and that you feel happy with how it went. I've got (realistically) till the start of January to make some pretty hefty career decisions - assuming nothing comes along in the meantime, and let's face it, after 2 years it probably won't.

Just how does one start their own business, anyway? And (most importantly), should I employ an assistant straight away? I think if I did I'd feel much more inclined to treat it as a serious job, i.e. actually have work for them to do, and thus create it for myself :)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:38 (twenty years ago) link

Dan - if you don't like it buddy, you don't have to be here!!
Hey Kate, nitemare journey to work huh? My sympathies, I had one of those on the way home yesterday.
You go markus!! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:40 (twenty years ago) link

Dan I. - it's just a corner of ILX where a group of people who like and enjoy each other's virtual company swap thoughts and stories and mundanities away from the pressure to be interesting/hilarious etc. on the other threads. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it makes us happy.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:40 (twenty years ago) link

mark otm!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:41 (twenty years ago) link

Also, it's the only place where people ever say "Mark otm!".

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:47 (twenty years ago) link

*nods*
This thread & its regular posters are the only reason I didn't stop posting to ilx altogether. *big hugs to them all*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:48 (twenty years ago) link

Hey, I didn't mean to insult y'all; do your thing. Actually, the degree to which this thread is self-contained reminds me a lot of Jay-Z vs. Nas!

Dan I., Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:54 (twenty years ago) link

I just got some train tickets in the post. Hurrah!

Liz just emailed to say she misses me. Aw!

robster (robster), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 10:08 (twenty years ago) link

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 12:35 (twenty years ago) link

I feel your pain, Sam. I just wrote a huge email to my family and my login timed out. Grrr...

I am doing well today, except that I didn't have time to grab any breakfast, so I'm starving.

I W A N T D O N U T S !!!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:14 (twenty years ago) link

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

Donuts and buttsex in the city? ;-)

Spontaneous Existence Failure (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:35 (twenty years ago) link

I got some candy for my Secret Santa present this AM so I already ate a shitload of Jelly Bellys because I was hungry and frustrated with my printer.

I also I can't figure out why people are confused by these threads.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:37 (twenty years ago) link

Nick - ppl are dumasses, that's why.

I'll just take the donuts pls Ms Failure!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:40 (twenty years ago) link

Oh whoops, forgot that was still there. It was a complicated Karl Popper Philosophy of Science joke. Never mind!

Kate 22 (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:42 (twenty years ago) link

I liked Citizen Kate!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:50 (twenty years ago) link

I prefered HRH Queen Kate, but hey, that's just me. ;-)

Spontaneous Existence Failure (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:50 (twenty years ago) link

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:00 (twenty years ago) link

Charge 'em double & take it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:01 (twenty years ago) link

Queen Kate was soooo you, btw! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:02 (twenty years ago) link

Me to bosses: "I'll take this one last assignment, but only if you let me use my OWN gun."
