they are two different pieces, and you need them both.
― Dan I., Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, you still have to buy it but you also have to find all the pieces
― CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link
I should have said "scrap" instead of "outfit".

I like how you never know whether a mission is going to be really short and simple or really long and involved (or somewhere in between) before it starts.
Just did that one where you have to go down in the mine to get the machine gun, that was pretty awesome, shooting at lamps to set dudes on fire and then riding the mining cart out.

Thanks for the clarification about the suit, much appreciated. Though something creeps me out about Thieve's Landing, I don't like hanging round there it always seems dark. Also, excited about this mine mission now!

i hate those random roadside robberies. stumbled into one last night, and my auto-targetting deadeye painted the victim as well as the robbers. then it turned out they weren't robbers but lawmen. five minutes later ran into another one, wiped out everyone including the victim again.
I know, I'm having the same problem all the time. Also with the guys stabbing the prosties. I feel extra bad when I shoot the person he's stabbing in addition to shooting him, and somehow I'm very anal about never doing anything outright bad in this game, and I wind up reverting to a savegame and losing a lot of time.
Also I find myself trying to lasso rather than shoot anyone committing a crime that doesn't involve killing people, and it keeps getting me killed over and over again. Plus I chased some asshole stealing a wagon for like 15 minutes last night when I could have just shot him in the back in two seconds. Then I had to bring the fucking wagon BACK!
― antexit, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:46 (thirteen years ago) link
i have fewer qualms about shooting crims. and i've yet to put it to the test but hopefully the manual dead-eye should help avoid these 'shoot the hostage' tragedies.

rabbits are plentiful but hard to shoot.
One more ILX roll call of who has this + a PS3?

What is the penalty for getting arrested?
Last time I played I let myself surrender, spent 15 seconds in jail, and then walked away with seemingly no penalty. What's the point of evading lawmen, then?

You know, way up at the top of the thread I said
That video actually reminds me of fallout 3 in lots of ways.
and that's still true really. I'm getting a similar feeling from it - I want to go back and play more because it's a great game, and at the same time I'm reluctant to go back because as a world it's just so bleak. All those wide stretches of nothingness! And those miserable little shacks that people had to live in, and the bitter nasty people that populate the world, and the ruthlessness of everything. If anything it's worse than Fallout was because this isn't an imagined future, it's a recreated past - people really had to live like this (or sort of like this). It's kind of a downer.
― JimD, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:46 (thirteen years ago) link
I mean, scrabbling round picking herbs and collecting armadillo meat is only one step up from picking up tin cans and collecting radroach meat.
― JimD, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:48 (thirteen years ago) link
It's a recreated past, but it also takes aesthetic license with the brutality and banal evil of the era. I'm sure there was plenty of laughter and happy times back then, you know?

i think the point is that YOU are the instrument of terror and degradation. like, if you go to bonnie's ranch at around sundown, you can see people milling around and talking by the fire, even dancing. all you can do is stand there mute or shoot them all DO YOU SEE.
― goole, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:27 (thirteen years ago) link
I have this on PS3 and would like to ILX posse (haven't had much time to play, as I've been slammed with work - MW2 more often than not gets that frustration out, but I'd love for this to take its place) - screen name - 'mct_rt'

yeah i've seen those. i was trying to join them, seeing if it would give me the option to 'sit down' or 'join camp' like it does with the others. i was gutted i couldn't join in teh fun.

Not quite sure why every time I enter any saloon, the piano player stops playing and stands on his stool.

this evening i have mostly been riding backwards and forwards across the whole map, shooting the odd critter, having a whale of a time.

yeah, i've run into this feeling a few times. it made me realize how unbelievably crude videogames still are, how limited the actual options for "interactivity" are. that's OK though, crudeness is cool sometimes. something that's surprised me about this is how "videogamey" it is - you spend most of your time doing the same few things - riding, shooting, checking your map. even though the plot is advancing, new areas opening, new cut scenes occur, etc, basically when you sit down with this you know pretty much what you're getting. which i wasn't quite expecting, for some reason.

smh @ the times reviewer guy coyly suggesting that the graverobber character is named after him. It's not like the character has anything directly to do with cultural criticism in any way or Seth was an uncommon name in the old west. It's like roger ebert saying "I suppose it is nothing more than coincidence that the troubled, fun-loving hero of the film is named 'Roger' Rabbit..."
