i keep shooting racoons by mistake

Once you find one rabbit, there's usually a lot more in the same place. I got 5 rabbits in less than a minute the other day. I was trying to get 5 coyotes yesterday so I put some bait down and hid behind a rock, and a fucking cougar came out of nowhere and mauled me to death in about a second.

I fucking love this game.

and my auto-targetting deadeye painted the victim as well as the robbers.

you'll welcome the third level of the targeting system then, it prevents shit like this happening. but it also means you're dead eye won't last as long (as you'll take more time at first getting the right target, until you get used to it)

Yeah I got it last night. Started using the meter-refilling tonics as well, they were indispensible on the train protection mission.

I find the side missions in this game SO PLEASURABLE that I'm 10 hours in and have barely completed the training stuff at the ranch and in Armadillo.

spent all of last night going through every cupboard in Thieve's Landing to find that suit :-(

now i'm not sure if i've already hunted and killed both the bollard twins or not.

Finally got this on Friday & wow! So far so awesome, except when my brother in law managed to knock my horse off that broken bridge into a watery grave. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, as I'm shit at free aim - I keep losing sight of that minuscule targeting dot

Im trying to get the achievement to kill all the animals and I have no fuggin clue which ones are left.

Im also at 98.6% and wondering whether getting 100% is worth it..

mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:28 (thirteen years ago) link

of course it is!!!

biggest pains in the ass getting to 100%: "discovering" all the locations, which i think is buggy: buy and use all the maps you can find, even if you've been everywhere. and, doing all the bounty hunting: the stat is counted by location, annoyingly.

anyway you may as well check the web for the unlock list; if you join the social club it keeps track of one for you so it's not really cheating, winky face.

goole, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i think not caring about achievements & completeness is going to be key to my enjoyment of this game

emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't bother trying to get achievements in games unless there's one really cool one

I haven't cheated on any of the Treasure Map quests and I'm proud of it. But I've looked up where to find certain animals

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I need to stop reading this thread, I'm so far behind everyone else despite getting it a few days after it came out. I was out of town for a week plus but I'm also just slow.

I have still barely played the multiplayer.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 17:51 (thirteen years ago) link

(try upstairs)

I still never use Dead Eye. I just shoot like fuck. Seems to work.

i got it last night but won't have time to play for about a week. i keep hoping that by the time i get to it, they'll have patched all the glitchy shit that's happened to you guys.

fwiw i'm on 360 and have had no glitches or control difficulty so ymmv

I can't believe you dudes are almost at 100% so soon. How many hours have you logged?

antexit, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm at the point where I think I've completed every stranger quest and miscellaneous stuff possible without having been to West Elizabeth and it's probably just a matter of doing one or two more quests before I get there. The game says I've completed about 60% and I'm sure I've logged at least 48 hours into it. Since I don't have a Live Account I'll probably end up beating the game within the next week and end up shelving it :[

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, just turned the game on and checked my stats. Says I'm 62% complete and total time played is 1 day 9 hours. That stat is probably wrong if it doesn't account for the time I spent without saving the game. Maybe another 4 hours I dunno

Sweet, thanks! Tried multiplayer last night, ended up in a shootout with only 2 others who teamed up to just get me so one of the others could level up. Bastards! Not fun, will try the co-op sometime soon

Really? I bought this at the tailors, don't tell me I could have just found it? Gah!

Bill E, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:39 (thirteen years ago) link

they are two different pieces, and you need them both.

Dan I., Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, you still have to buy it but you also have to find all the pieces

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link

I should have said "scrap" instead of "outfit".

I like how you never know whether a mission is going to be really short and simple or really long and involved (or somewhere in between) before it starts.

Just did that one where you have to go down in the mine to get the machine gun, that was pretty awesome, shooting at lamps to set dudes on fire and then riding the mining cart out.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 00:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks for the clarification about the suit, much appreciated. Though something creeps me out about Thieve's Landing, I don't like hanging round there it always seems dark. Also, excited about this mine mission now!

i hate those random roadside robberies. stumbled into one last night, and my auto-targetting deadeye painted the victim as well as the robbers. then it turned out they weren't robbers but lawmen. five minutes later ran into another one, wiped out everyone including the victim again.

I know, I'm having the same problem all the time. Also with the guys stabbing the prosties. I feel extra bad when I shoot the person he's stabbing in addition to shooting him, and somehow I'm very anal about never doing anything outright bad in this game, and I wind up reverting to a savegame and losing a lot of time.

Also I find myself trying to lasso rather than shoot anyone committing a crime that doesn't involve killing people, and it keeps getting me killed over and over again. Plus I chased some asshole stealing a wagon for like 15 minutes last night when I could have just shot him in the back in two seconds. Then I had to bring the fucking wagon BACK!

antexit, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:46 (thirteen years ago) link

i have fewer qualms about shooting crims. and i've yet to put it to the test but hopefully the manual dead-eye should help avoid these 'shoot the hostage' tragedies.

rabbits are plentiful but hard to shoot.

One more ILX roll call of who has this + a PS3?

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

What is the penalty for getting arrested?

Last time I played I let myself surrender, spent 15 seconds in jail, and then walked away with seemingly no penalty. What's the point of evading lawmen, then?

You know, way up at the top of the thread I said

That video actually reminds me of fallout 3 in lots of ways.

and that's still true really. I'm getting a similar feeling from it - I want to go back and play more because it's a great game, and at the same time I'm reluctant to go back because as a world it's just so bleak. All those wide stretches of nothingness! And those miserable little shacks that people had to live in, and the bitter nasty people that populate the world, and the ruthlessness of everything. If anything it's worse than Fallout was because this isn't an imagined future, it's a recreated past - people really had to live like this (or sort of like this). It's kind of a downer.

JimD, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, scrabbling round picking herbs and collecting armadillo meat is only one step up from picking up tin cans and collecting radroach meat.

JimD, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:48 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a recreated past, but it also takes aesthetic license with the brutality and banal evil of the era. I'm sure there was plenty of laughter and happy times back then, you know?

i think the point is that YOU are the instrument of terror and degradation. like, if you go to bonnie's ranch at around sundown, you can see people milling around and talking by the fire, even dancing. all you can do is stand there mute or shoot them all DO YOU SEE.

goole, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 17:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I have this on PS3 and would like to ILX posse (haven't had much time to play, as I've been slammed with work - MW2 more often than not gets that frustration out, but I'd love for this to take its place) - screen name - 'mct_rt'

yeah i've seen those. i was trying to join them, seeing if it would give me the option to 'sit down' or 'join camp' like it does with the others. i was gutted i couldn't join in teh fun.

Not quite sure why every time I enter any saloon, the piano player stops playing and stands on his stool.
