What town/area is Thieves' Landing based on?

Just played this for 12 hours straight. Well the weather wasn't that great anyway. It definitely seems more enjoyable to play than GTA IV, just 'cause of the variety in the missions. Gorgeous though it is I think GTA looks better though - maybe I just prefer cities. Riding a horse ain't as fun as driving through the city at 120mph but otoh not being constrained by roads or traffic is grebt.

[SPOILER] The Sam Odessa mission was a bit o_O, just watching a guy slowly die in the desert. Why didn't he just get on a train?

Haven't been to Thieves' Landing yet, despite the promise of fancy outfits at the tailors. I've waiting for it to turn up in story mode, I presume it will, or am I mistaken?

it's definitely in the story mode, but not much of it. there's a couple of stranger missions that end up there at some point too.

that first treasure map is bullshit btw, spent ages looking for a separate clump of rocks in front of the hanging tree.

My thought was a kind of ole' Mississippi vibe to Thieve's landing?

What's the deal with searching Thieves's landing as one of the tasks to get a different outfit? Are you looking for anything in particular?

So far the best part of this is how I spent 5 minutes shooting all around rabbits and coyotes and homegirl was all "oh you're a great shot!"

please someone tell me that they have been stuck with the glitch where the stagecoaches just bounce up and down and wont move. if not, i am at a point where irish and i have to drive a stagecoach somewhere and if this is not a patch issue, i need to start over. in which case i will prob sell this game out of frustration. do not want to redo all the training bullshit again.

haven't seen that, sorry. and i'm past that mission.

Jjjusten, I've had the exact same issue with psychotic bouncing stagecoaches, and it wasn't even during a mission. I loaded the most recent save point and it fixed itself.

hint: there's a lot of interior spaces in thieves' landing.

xp: never seen the bouncing stagecoach!! i really wanna see one of these man-crows or man-cougars too, dammit

i've been playing multi a little bit, and i kind of don't see the point? the gang shootouts are not that much fun cos the weapons are all stock. and free roam... am i really supposed to be picking flowers or hunting bear while 15 dudes are picking me off for the hell of it?

i wish there was more coop multi stuff going on

There's going to be an add-on pack.

there are co-op missions (same as in single player - pike's basin, twin rocks, tumbleweed, etc). i managed to join a posse who were recruiting everyone available, just to grind pike's basin. it's pretty quick when you have 20+ people. but i promised myself no multiplayer grinding this time.

is the reason I'm not getting more quickdraw minigames that the first challenge i got i shot the guy in the nuts six times?

I can't switch my mind over from riding mode to fighting mode fast enough. Whenever a random encounter involves fighting, I tend to get slaughtered as I frantically try to remember how to smoothly draw gun, enter deadeye mode, etc.
I love this game, but the poor controls still drive me nuts sometimes. I've come across a few open doors in ghost town type areas that I just could NOT get into without spending like an entire minute lining up my guy precisely in front of the door.

is there a way to teleport quickly and effectively in multi? I got invited to join a pretty functioning posse yesterday but felt like I was limping along trying to catch up w/ them all the time

There are minor spoilers of random things you might see and I would have preferred to have seen it first before I read about it.

no, there's just those travel spots in the towns.

are you going as fast as you can on your mount? sprint until your horse's stamina is all gone w/o getting bucked off -- go hard until the controller buzzes 2 or 3 times. then hold run until the meter refills (takes like 2 seconds) then repeat. going fast is kind of a button mashing exercise :/

plus it's possible your posse mates have faster mounts unlocked.

i mean, it's not like in the 1p where you can pull up your campfire and go wherever you want

right. I mean that's gotta be easier than riding for 20 min

i too found entering some buildings a bit tricky, i think it's the ones with a higher step on the front door. my man will genuinly get stuck against the step if i don't pixel perfect him into the door. frustrating.

just played this for a couple of hours however, had fun. loved the dynamite on the road mission.

PRO TIP for those early on in the game - if you want to make easy $$$, keep playing high stakes liars dice with the dude with the deed from the movie making missions in thieves landing, because he and his buddy are stone fucking stupid and will lose 90% of the time.

urgh i just can't be bothered with the mini games like that, but the poker isn't too bad though

I have not once had cash-flow problems throughout the game, and I haven't sold a single flower/pelt.

im mostly trying to get to the point where i have so much cash i never have to bother getting off my horse to loot bodies.

Do non-plot-related bodies ever have anything other than ammo and small amounts of cash?

Oh man I love the side missions, I'm always on the lookout for the next one.

I kinda feared the poker game against the German though, as I have no idea how to play poker. I just kept pressing the green button and I beat him in no time! Good cards I guess. Agree about the Liar's Dice/movie guy.

Finally got this on Friday & wow! So far so awesome, except when my brother in law managed to knock my horse off that broken bridge into a watery grave. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, as I'm shit at free aim - I keep losing sight of that minuscule targeting dot

Also somehow managed to teleport from a campsite directly onto a train while on my horse. Good times...
