ten months pass...

Are the BBC interviews in a greenhouse? Strange.

Also, Ronnie O' wanted to pull out and then changed his mind a day later :-/

So yeah, it's on again! Sheffield! Crucible! That bloke who fuzzily talks through his beard going "lidl bit unlucky" all the time! etc etc! Woohoo!

StanM, Sunday, 17 April 2011 15:39 (thirteen years ago) link

They make it look so easy.

not_goodwin, Sunday, 17 April 2011 16:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow, were those posts about Ding upthread really six years ago already?

StanM, Sunday, 17 April 2011 16:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Ronnie not doing too badly against Tommy Cooper there

StanM, Monday, 18 April 2011 15:58 (thirteen years ago) link

He looked good in the three frames I saw, though it looked as if his opponent was doing his best to set him up for a maxi at the start of every frame.

Maguire having a 'mare. Proper wasted talent that guy.

9-9 Higgins - O'Sullivan. This is great. Guess everyone is gonna watch Barca - Madrid

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 27 April 2011 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

Expecting Judd Trump to falter at some point. Not happening so far.

7-4 ahead of Ding.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 29 April 2011 10:07 (twelve years ago) link

Only half watching - I keep seeing Ding in winning positions then go back to find he's lost another frame. Both players look to be struggling to find form

every day I'm (onimo), Friday, 29 April 2011 12:20 (twelve years ago) link

Both were not morning persons. The evening session was blow-for-blow high breaks.

Now Higgins - Williams is also a tad scrappy this morning, but they share the first four frames: 11-9 Williams

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 10:20 (twelve years ago) link

11-11. Incredible fight back by John - on yesterday's session Mark was so good but John is so resilient.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 11:10 (twelve years ago) link

lol

btw

fuck off john higgins

That's crazy. Williams launched an assault yesterday - the tables can turn but he needed to steal a frame or two. Now its Williams who is taking on tough pots instead of playing safe when required.

12-11 John. Betting this will go all the way. Won't bet against World title no4 for Higgins.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 11:38 (twelve years ago) link

Higgins about to steal the final frame of the session..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 11:47 (twelve years ago) link

No doubts about that: 13-11

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 11:50 (twelve years ago) link

Who's this Trump kid, he's doing well.

not_goodwin, Saturday, 30 April 2011 14:17 (twelve years ago) link

Judd's done it!

StanM, Saturday, 30 April 2011 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

Poor Ding

StanM, Saturday, 30 April 2011 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah,wanted ding to win.
All in all, great snooker from the both of them.

not_goodwin, Saturday, 30 April 2011 17:15 (twelve years ago) link

Trump is great. People mentioned Jimmy White because of some of the huge cue power (and exuberance by putting it on show often) and I'd agree.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

i liked that he couldn't quite keep from smiling towards the end of the colours on the final frame. and then saying in the interview afterwards that his legs were giving way on him. i hope he can ride the wave to the title.

nultybutnice (whatever), Saturday, 30 April 2011 19:42 (twelve years ago) link

Higgins through after a cagey final session.

Love Trump to do this but Higgins is a killer of dreams -- can see him getting Trump into tactical battles and sinking him. Its just whether Trump could find the big breaks from 14 - 9 down.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:33 (twelve years ago) link

I missed the heckler - apparently the guy shouted "How did you swallow that £300,000 John? You're a disgrace to snooker!"

Higgins was lucky to stay in the match yesterday. He played much better today and Williams just kept letting him in. I think if Trump maintains his form he'll be strong enough to win. Higgins has had three long gruelling matches in a row and I think he'll run out of steam. I think I'll have a flutter on Trump to win by 3 or more frames.

every day I'm (onimo), Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:37 (twelve years ago) link

They will both have a bad session is all I predict.

StanM, Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:41 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't catch what the heckler said. Was wondering why the commentators weren't saying anything...and why was Williams smiling to himself after he was evicted?

I was also gonna say that Higgins has got a lot to prove after all that has happened. He has been through many tough matches but Trump has never been to this stage. xp

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 30 April 2011 20:44 (twelve years ago) link

Scrappy stuff, but I can't see either of them suddenly taking off - I predict a decider

StanM, Sunday, 1 May 2011 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

Rapidly becoming a fan of Trump's spectacular style, though.

StanM, Sunday, 1 May 2011 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, he's good, but a little too cocky.

not_goodwin, Sunday, 1 May 2011 20:48 (twelve years ago) link

So this Trump guy...

xyzzzz__, Monday, 2 May 2011 11:57 (twelve years ago) link

Onimo otm based on last night's session - Higgins looks spent really.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 2 May 2011 11:58 (twelve years ago) link

First time I've watched more than 10 minutes of snooker for about 10 years.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 2 May 2011 12:19 (twelve years ago) link

Watched a bit of this last night, I was struck by how many of Trump's ridic long pots go right into the centre of the pockets. I ended up just betting Trump to win as my bookie didn't have a "more than 3 frames" thing, only had correct score books.

Higgins is twitching on long pots - beginning of the end of his career.

abbottabadass (onimo), Monday, 2 May 2011 13:00 (twelve years ago) link

BBC filler guy being sent to knock the players' dressing room doors wtf. This "let's get the boys on the baize" thing is no "ready to rumble" is it?

abbottabadass (onimo), Monday, 2 May 2011 13:07 (twelve years ago) link

BBC filler guy manages to be more inane than Hazel's 'what is going through your mind' - type questions.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 2 May 2011 13:25 (twelve years ago) link

Oh for fuck's sake don't resurrect this Snooker Loopy shite!

abbottabadass (onimo), Monday, 2 May 2011 14:00 (twelve years ago) link

Don't want to use the dreaded r-word again but it's frankly amazing that Higgins has levelled this match. I've never seen him miss so many balls but he keeps coming back with these frame winning breaks. Trump's giving him lots of chances, of course - if he could tighten his safety up and resist at least some of the higher risk shots I think he'd be out of sight.

abbottabadass (onimo), Monday, 2 May 2011 15:08 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, trump needs to try to curb something he's not had to curb before in this situation.

that blue in an early frame this afternoon, he thought for 3 minutes what to do, and he still went with the high risk shot. sounds like it's been downhill since then.

if he can play percentages then he'll have higgins working a lot harder to win.

nultybutnice (whatever), Monday, 2 May 2011 15:56 (twelve years ago) link

What a roaring crowd! Amazing!

StanM, Monday, 2 May 2011 18:10 (twelve years ago) link

C'mon Higgins :)

not_goodwin, Monday, 2 May 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

If Trump loses this it'll be by his own doing but if he plays his cards right next year he'll be sure to get there eventually.

StanM, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:06 (twelve years ago) link

He's too busy whacking them in (which he does well), he's not focusing on the longer game.

not_goodwin, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

up the trump

nultybutnice (whatever), Monday, 2 May 2011 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

It's slipping away for the youngster.

not_goodwin, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:34 (twelve years ago) link

needs to turn the adrenaline tap down

nultybutnice (whatever), Monday, 2 May 2011 20:40 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, he's not a great safety player yet by a long way. Great pots are great, but this is the world championship final, you need to be the best at multiple things at once.

StanM, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:42 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, he's smacking shots all over.
to be fair, he is only 21 and he is handling it pretty well considering.

When he calms down and learns more safety play, maybe over the next couple of years, he'll be untouchable.

not_goodwin, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:44 (twelve years ago) link

Higgins' steady perfection can be boring compared to the Trumps and Ronnies of this world, but boy does it get him frames you'd think were long gone

StanM, Monday, 2 May 2011 20:57 (twelve years ago) link

Not often you see Higgins pick the wrong shot - wtf was he thinking with that cut? He's been watching too much of that Trump fella.
