wau, 2 shows.

mlb's own production ambitions have always been such a goddamn joke; it is simply amazing to me how amateurish their own product is, and that they think they can get away with it

They've got the January schedule up. Here's MLK Day:

WTF this show just asserted that geronimo's apaches played a game of baseball against the us army (and won)??? i cant find anything about this online. there was a olde tymey picture of some indian ass dudes wearing APACHE uniforms tho so i guess it must be true.

also there was just a commercial for the home run derby, which seems retarded to me if you already know who won, it's not like something like a dunk contest where the spectacle of the dunk is an inherently exciting thing to behold

also the graphics on this shit are like some local news broadcast, when i saw an ad for the hot stove show out of the corner of my eye i thought it was a preview of the 11 o clock news

This morning's "legendary game" was a Pirate-Cub battle from the early '90s? About all I caught was Mike Harkey pitching to Jay Bell! Anyone know what that was?

From the link posted by Thermo in the '08 retirees thread:

Former Red Sox first baseman Sean Casey is officially retiring, having signed on with the MLB Network. Casey, The 34-year-old, who played in 69 games with Boston last season, hitting .322, finishes his 12-season career with a .302 lifetime batting average to go along with three All-Star appearances. Casey’s role with the network has yet to be defined.

"Intentional Talk" is the worst program on any cable network right now and possibly ever. It makes me very angry watching these two clowns.

Al Michaels and Bob Costas are doing the Mets vs. Giants game tonight at 7PM.

The first three innings will be fairly basic, with Costas calling the first inning and a half and Michaels the next inning and a half. They'll speak directly to fans of both teams by switching to SportsNet New York's booth for the fourth and fifth innings before taking over ComCast SportsNet Bay Area's broadcast for the sixth and seventh innings (Krukow and Kuiper will handle MLB Network duties during that span). Then it's back to the MLB Network telecast for both Michaels and Costas.

Many gems:

You hand-manage the game by managing who is on the on deck circle.

When he gets hot, you can literally jump on his back and he can carry you.

This is where Shelby Miller needs to do his best to make the pitch he needs to make.

I would put it on again. - Harold Reynolds, on BJ Upton bunting with two strikes and a man on first.

Hope someone assembles a clip of irritated/uncomfortable position players attempting to bunt -- between-pitch body language, nervous/pitiful stabs at pitches, etc.

For the inaugural event, the Celebrity Softball Game during All-Star Week, the virtual ballpark will feature a live stream of the game on the virtual ballpark's video board

so you can go to a virtual ballpark to watch a game unfold on a little two-dimensional screen beyond the virtual outfield

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 July 2023 09:12 (nine months ago) link

For the MLB virtual ballpark, that could mean fans talking to each other, walking through the stadium together, meeting in the concourse

have they thought this part through
