i like how he pitched down his voice a bit to fit the vibe of the track
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 May 2010 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link
And that rhyme scheme in the first verse? Damn! Like it's been a while since I've praised someone's rhyme scheme, but it's just such a contrast to B's normal speak-rapping that it's almost a shock.

― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 May 2010 04:29 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i would love to see an interview with him where he talks about why he does what he does, cuz he can obv rap 'normally' if he wants to and he doesn't lose any of what makes him compelling. & yet he rarely does it. even on this track he acts like if the first verses didn't even happen. what a guy.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 May 2010 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link
Definitely. And like, most of what he's saying on the track has been said before a million times, but it doesn't sound preachy or pedantic... it's just fuckin' B, pondering this shit, to use your word, J0rdan. Like, he completely sells it.

woah i have pretty much thought everything i've heard of lil' b so far is straight up garbage
great rapping...if he can do this why doesn't he do this all the time?????
but this song is great....really fucking great.
the beat reminds me more of "dead presidents", that sorta eerie smooth jazz vibe than premo

i've also been really feeling that az joint posted upthread with the great disco beat (that's what any hip-hop-dance fusion should sound like nnnghhh) and big krit's "country shit", which is the first thing i've heard from krit which really warrants being played obsessively on loop

so weird how lil b hit critical mass in what seems like the past week. i cannot believe after the past year or 1.5 year the job he's done executing his vision and actually creating buzz to the ppint that, if it were to continue like this, he could actually blow which is something I used to laugh at my boy for even suggesting since like late 08
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 27 May 2010 02:06 (thirteen years ago) link
well, to be fair, "the age of information" is pretty mainstream as far as b tracks go

a. this is the best sentence i've seen written about b.o.b
B.o.B., who seemed to outgrow rap before he could even grow into it.
b. the review sums up contemporary southern underground rap as good as that tom b piece from a couple of weeks back did
c. everything said about krit is pretty much right otm

anyway, good take. the one thing i think should really be pointed out is that is seems like he really intentionally frontloaded all the anthemic dirty south bangers so he could focus on more personal shit for the rest of the album, which is a really effective construction
