Thanks folks. Gonna try again ...

Firefox did the trick, not sure why I persist in using Windows for anything. Maybe this will convince me to go see KV in a few weeks with Real Estate. On the fence.

the last half of "invisibility: nonexistent" is really blissed out :)

I dunno he was always a kind of take 'em or leave 'em kind of thing for me, liked but not loved, but I've been digging the recent ish a bunch

― (e_3) (Edward III), Monday, May 24, 2010 4:42 PM

ah i misread it as you were trying to ignore him, but yeah otm

( `ハ´)☞ ☜(´∀`☜) (am0n), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

def gonna try to catch him live next month

( `ハ´)☞ ☜(´∀`☜) (am0n), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i never heard him before this...is this pretty much what he's like on the albums?

some parts remind me of the quieter parts of swell maps but more pop

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:08 (thirteen years ago) link

he's pretty varied. God Is Saying This To You (my fave) is mostly solo material with a lot of slide guitar. his last EP credited to Kurt Vile and the Violators was more rock. some of his other stuff is more pop/rock with drum machine.

dmr, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:40 (thirteen years ago) link

solo as in just voice and guitar, no band

dmr, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:40 (thirteen years ago) link

haunted springsteen imo

this is what I was referring to above and it is already one of my favorite things of 2010.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

ah yeah i see that now...really beautiful

also is it me, or is this song title:

"Losing Momentum (For Jim Jarmusch)" a great parody sonic youth song title or what?

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 20:09 (thirteen years ago) link

"i wanted everything" sorta reminds me of if jandek made conventional music

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 20:12 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah I definitely get a hint of Jandek on KV's stuff sometimes

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 20:12 (thirteen years ago) link

sleeve, Sunday, 2 January 2011 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link

one month passes...

Just listening to a promo of the new one. I havne't previously heard him before, but this is stripped down acoustica with a few effects on top. Kind of M.Ward with J.Mascis's voice with a hint of Ariel Pink(?) Didn't think much of it at first, but it might be growing on me. Anyway, what's the previous stuff like? Does it rock or subvert any more than this?

dentarthurdent (dog latin), Thursday, 10 February 2011 14:11 (thirteen years ago) link

It alternates between stuff like that, some more straight-forward indie-rock/pop moments (thinking "Freeway"), and NY+Crazy Horse style rockers/jammers.
Childish Prodigy is probably his most "rockin" and "god is saying this to you" his most subdued.

I wasn't sure of what to make of this guy when I first heard this new album. It felt kind of MOR at first, but then a lot of the songs started worming their ways in and now 'Society Is My Friend' and 'Puppet To The Man' are firm favourites.

there's a real lindsay buckingham vibe to the new one...

this sounds great. have kinda missed the boat on this guy...makes me think of j mascis backed by the go-betweens or something.

tylerw, Monday, 28 February 2011 17:33 (thirteen years ago) link

his first three are great too, tyler, if you've not heard them...

i like this new one but i think i prefer him in his "rockin'" mode. you should rly check out 'childish prodigy'

r.i.p. hamilton (am0n), Monday, 28 February 2011 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Dog Latin, I like the new one, but you should definitely check out his earlier stuff (particularly the wonderful constant hitmaker and the occasionally brilliant god is saying this to you).

They are the after the goldrush and on the beach to smoke ring for my halo's comes a time.

imo

Z S, Monday, 28 February 2011 17:55 (thirteen years ago) link

And I like childish prodigy (I like just about anything he does tbh), but it was also the first one that started occasionally veering into the coffeeshop friendly style

Z S, Monday, 28 February 2011 18:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Smoke Ring sounding really good to my fatigued monday morning self right now.
