Rhinoceros beetles are also one of the strongest animals on the planet in relation to their own size. They can also survive Nuclear warfare.

The researchers suspect many individual sloths visited the latrines: on one occasion a mother and baby visited.
in a weird way, this is adorable.

So I happened upon this little thing about angler fish and thought of this thread:http://theoatmeal.com/comics/angler
And here's the pic Leeee posted upthread again, because it had an extra character in and didn't load on-thread for me:http://scribalterror.blogs.com/scribal_terror/images/2007/06/17/angler_fish.jpg

in that youtube clip above, i'm not sure which is supposed to be the "world's most disgusting animal," the rhino beetle or the guy who ate it raw.

Surinam toad is way the worst, reminds me of Gulliver's Travels and that description of the Brobdingnagian woman's breast tumour.

I have to lodge my vote for the humble possum. Not as disgusting as others on this thread but, ugh god i hate these things so so much.
I totally feel this post. These are nasty, horrible things only made worse by the fact that if you catch them running across a sidewalk, you might well mistake them for a kitty cat. (Though if you get rabies, you're still kind of a moron -- you shouldn't be approaching feral kitty cats, either.)
― kenan, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 12:45 (thirteen years ago) link
The opossum is the one animal that I was familiar with in the south that I was surprised to see in the north. There's no armadillos up here, no marauding raccoons, certainly no deer. But there's still opossums.
― kenan, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 12:51 (thirteen years ago) link
Chicago is home to marauding raccoons. Ask Jesse.

That swiss cheese carrier toad thing still gives me the cereaming abdabs, especially as it looks like it's made from that disgusting green foam that florists use.

the worst part of that article:
In other insects, where females have evolved an upper hand in the war of the sexes, males have developed even more extreme counter-strategies. Look no further than the common bedbug – the male bypasses the female’s genitals altogether and stabs his sharp penis straight into the female’s back, a technique known appropriately as traumatic insemination.
