I've also yet to pick up RDR! I know I started this hype thread, but lately I'm unsure if I really want to play through a long single player game, especially right now. And multiplayer with auto-aim isn't something I can get into. Also too many games I already own at the moment that I'm enjoying (Bad Company 2, various CoD games, TF2, various racing games) or haven't had the time to even get into (like SSFIV).

multiplayer is p.fun; didn't think I'd touch it tbh but I've just whittled away the afternoon playing the co-op instances and levelling up my donkey

just a heads up jim, make sure tesco don't charge you full whack despite buying it w/a voucher. read some other reports that they've been funny buggers charging full price w/RDR for some reason

this game is gorgeous

the writing is incredible too; the dialogue is pin sharp and so well acted

I've been preaching for massive multiplayer games to have minigames like poker forever (I haven't played RDR so I'll see how it stacks). Ideally I would have a saloon where you could have chat consoles pop up for the whole place and/or a specific table (so I guess my mmo would be a computer game). Ideally the poker would be texas hold 'em and there would be other games like darts too. Lots of gambling

jeff, there are hardcore playlists in MP which completely disable the auto-aim (unfortunately these have to be unlocked by levelling up, much like in cod)

i will be playing dragon origins and probly fallout 3 in place of this until monday. sigh.

I got this earlier today and put in several hours, most of them spent just goofing off in the wilderness. My only complaint so far is that often, when I get off my horse momentarily to skin an animal, when it finishes the bloody process, the horse is suddenly far off in the distance. Maybe this is a weird bug, or maybe the game does it on purpose to demonstrate that you have a shitty horse.

I got off my horse once and turn around and suddenly it's perched high up on a boulder lol

got it. an hour later i'm still in tutorial.

The horse will come running to you if you whistle.

meant to spend a couple of hours on this last night, looked at watch and it was past one, not good when you;re supposed to be on early child-wrangling duties. Mostly single player with a wee bit of free roam - am loving the hunting, have managed to get up a few levels - the potential to while away a tranquil hour just wandering, taking in the views and shooting boar and deer - lovely.

Acting is pretty cool, good dialogue so far, especially liked the sherriff in armadillo - only thing am not loving so far is the cover mechanic - seems really clunky and unresponsive - minor gripe tho.

Watched "High Plains Drifter" tonight for the first time ever. Jesus Christ.

the nighttime atmospherics is what gets me, especially when you go for a wander and all of a sudden there's a wild boar charging you

Is there a free-look button? I feel like I want to zoom in on scenery a lot of the time but I just end up accidentally getting a gun out.

The first time I died and woke up at the savepoint I was at 20 minutes ago was a sobering shift from GTA mechanics.

right stick is look around, but there's no zoom, I see in the stats that there's one for binocular use tho, so later in the game we may well get some.

I wish you could drop off hogtied criminals somewhere for honour/fame/cash

(non-bounty criminals that is, like the random hustlers you encounter while riding around)
