So who ghostwrote Sean Garrett's verse? He's actually tolerable here... and I assume he produced the beat, which is kind of awesome.

rennavate, Friday, 21 May 2010 23:29 (thirteen years ago) link

he probably did -- outside chance that it's bangladesh

lol @ the paranoia that a PROFESSIONAL SONGWRITER (one that helped take R&B closer to rap than ever before) couldn't have written a rap verse himself

some dude, Saturday, 22 May 2010 00:45 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh sean garrett rapping sounds like a much less terrifying prospect than him singing

The Reverend, Saturday, 22 May 2010 00:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Sorry, I thought Sean Garrett was someone else for a second. Got my names mixed up!

This is one of the three videos (Mind of A Maniac, Brothers Keeper) we shot back in September 2009 during a weekend trip to Baton Rouge. After 4 hours of shooting we had to cut it short because of a meeting Boosie had with his lawyers and never got a chance to finish filming. When his best friend Bleek passed away April 1, 2010 we were inspired to revisit this footage because of his heavy presence in the video and come up with something in his memory. Per Boosie's request, we are releasing this unofficial video.

i can't deal with boosie's voice

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link

that's the whole selling point!

i am willing to bet that this falls directly along the pac/biggie fault line

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link

who's pac and who's biggie in that equation?

i f/w boosie > gucci but boosie >>>>>>>> gucci is silly

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link

i should say that the number of ">"'s i put in that was totally arbitrary and is not a scientific measurement

boosie is pac & gucci is biggie -- stylistically i think they break in the same sort of manner

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:29 (thirteen years ago) link

i've made this comparison before though

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:30 (thirteen years ago) link

i always think of it as like, if someone said "sooooooooo much better" xp

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:31 (thirteen years ago) link

ah yeah i guess i didn't put much though into it.

weird i like biggie was more than pac, but boosie way better than gucci

ya i would maybe flip that analogy, based on delivery at least cause biggie & boosie are so much more emphatic. you probably have some good reasoning though, and i haven't listened to much tupac.

also boosie, biggie; biggie, boosie

quite the opposite here

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link

who the hell was more emphatic than pac?

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link

outside of maybe DMC, no one

upper mississippi sh@kedown, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:44 (thirteen years ago) link

this is me btw

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:44 (thirteen years ago) link

i'll grant u dmc

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link

obv this is a bit reductive but

pac & boosie (esp boosie of the past 2 years or so) rap from the heart in a real emotional manner about some real emotional shit, might make time for raps about flossing but everything really circles back to the guttural pain in my life type rap

gucci & biggie (excepting some obvious biggie tracks) rap about kingpin shit in a way that's flashy and dazzles you with wordplay/internal rhyming/imagery etc

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link

that is a bit reductive

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:46 (thirteen years ago) link

i know

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:47 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, i don't know, maybe emphatic isn't it. more like i feel they've got more dynamic, rounder deliveries. hard to explain, and also hard to prove to a tupac fan :P

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:49 (thirteen years ago) link

rounder?

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm going to go listen to some tupac to make sure i'm not just making this up, but like, gucci's general enunciation and delivery is pretty uniform, whereas boosie stretches words out and raps louder, more comfortable or adventurous with his vocal chords. like half the pleasure is just hearing his voice. i feel similarly about biggie.

jordan's analogy is more concrete and not maybe just my imagination, still feel like there's something here though.
