http://www.documentingreality.com/forum/attachments/f181/44221d1239579277-tongue-eating-isopod-tongue-replacement-isopod-1.jpg

I think I am not so much freaked out by the isopod as: why the hell does this fish have human teeth???

posted this the other day in a spider thread, but i'm just gonna go ahead and post it again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWASwBWyUXI

prying it off with a stick like that had to have been as satisfying, if not more satisfying, than lighting the whole thing on fire

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link

hahahaha I was going to post the fish with human teeth but I thought that was only something I was freaked out by

it's just not right

coelancanths are awesome tho! They are so ancient and huge and also if you catch them in Animal Crossing they are worth tons of bells <3

I am surprised at the revulsion for the coconut crab - it seems to be pretty firmly planted on the good side of the arthropod divide

I have eaten more guinea pigs than I can remember now after seven months in Peru. Better than rabbit, not as good as chicken. lots of dark meat and little bones.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

coconut crabs: i like them i just shudder to think about how if given the opportunity they would surely open up a baby's skull and casually help themselves to the brains

iiiijjjj, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:51 (thirteen years ago) link

I was going to post this eye-leech, but it sounds like the loa loa worm has it beat.

Daleks in NYC (Leee), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:52 (thirteen years ago) link

tbf it wouldn't actually help itself to the brains after opening up the baby's skull, it would call its buddy first

http://www.hemmy.net/images/animals/hugecrab01.jpg

then they would divvy up and share.

Gulper Eel

Dragon fish

Vampire Squid

Daleks in NYC (Leee), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:00 (thirteen years ago) link

What is the fish that looks a lot like the viperfish but has giant, almost opaque eyeballs that are a solid milky white? And kind of a more elongated head? I had a picture book as a kid with a giant full page photo of two of their faces and it was the "scare yourself by turning to it" page for sure.

deep sea angler?

Dayo then you may very well also be trypophobic! LOL if you GIS trypophobia that frog is one the first things that comes up. IT'S SO FUCKING AWFUL. Lotus breast image is one of the most revolting things ever imo.

Yeah - I basically don't like clustered patterns of holes found in fuman/animal flesh. I also HATE lotus seed pods. Weird, I know but they just revolt me.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Other holes are fine though.

Aqua Backrat (ENBB), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:22 (thirteen years ago) link

star nose mole way worse than bat but the bat is pretty bad too imo

^^^ already on here @ #4 but deserves reiterating: lamprey eels will fuck you up

also i saw someone mention loa loa & filarial worms are FUCKED UP (google @ yr own risk) but ill rep for roundworms specifically Ascaris lumbricoides:

http://www.thaimedicalnews.com/wp-content/uploads/round-worms.jpg

Ascaris lumbricoides is the giant roundworm of human, belonging to the phylum Nematoda. It is an ascarid nematode responsible for the disease ascariasis in human. It is the largest and most common parasitic worm in humans. A quarter of human population is estimated to be infected by this parasite. Ascariasis is prevalent worldwide and more so in tropical and subtropical countries.

It can reach a length of up to 35 cm

Yeah - I basically don't like clustered patterns of holes found in fuman/animal flesh. I also HATE lotus seed pods. Weird, I know but they just revolt me.

I am the same way, esp about the lotus seed pods, and I didn't even know it was a thing! Every once in a while i have a really awful dream along these lines the specifics of which I will not divulge here, and even thinking about it makes me kind of queasy and disturbed feeling.

Also, I snortOLed at "spidermerkin.jpg."

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I didn't know it was a thing either until a friend told me about how she felt that way and I realized that I wasn't alone! Even just getting a quick glance at some of the images when I googled it for quoting purposes earlier had me nearly crawling out of my skin. *shudder*

ok uh

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7235205.stm

The team recorded footage of a female worm-like amphibian, called a caecilian, allowing her young to peel off and eat her skin.

Scientists have only recently discovered this bizarre parental behaviour.

The female caecilian's skin becomes thicker and more nutrient-rich when she bears offspring.

And the young have specialised teeth for tearing and removing it.
