Obviously that kind of scenario wouldn't count. All 4 of them.

So what injuries count and what don't. All of the guys who pulled out "have injuries", however small they might actually be.

Carson Palmer (Torn ACL, MCL)
Priest Holmes (Neck/Spine)
Jake Plummer (Sore Vagina)

Here's another crazy idea that will never happen: the NFL should have a mid-season All-Star break like every other sport. Play the game at a time when people give a crap about football -- play the Pro Bowl on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone else in the country is on vacation, so why not the NFL? It's Thanksgiving, so we know people will watch the game, and the large audience will be an incentive to players. Don't play any games on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and arrange the schedule so that no teams have a bye week immediately before or after the Pro Bowl break. The Superbowl would be pushed back one week under this scenario, but it's not like the NFL is competing with any other sports in February -- it's a dead month.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 19:55 (eighteen years ago) link

It sure help my fantasy league to have all the byes in one week.

But the players might get hurt, eh! The non-playing players would do better with the week off. And Cal Ripken survived Roberto Hernandez smacking him in the nose.

That said, I don't blame the NFL a bit to treat their All-Star game like a Bon Voyage / See-Ya-Next Season! Luau Beach Party.

DETROIT AIN'T.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:19 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, that's Detroit's tradition. We started that bitch and ain't NO ONE gonna take away our Thanksgiving Day game.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:22 (eighteen years ago) link

how about a "all stars vs. detroit" game??!?!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Screw tradition. We're talking about a MEANINGLESS ALL-STAR GAME here.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:30 (eighteen years ago) link

OK All Stars v Detroit just seems like cruel and unusual punishment.

Anyway let's not be obtuse here. Are we actually pretending Tom Brady and Jake Plummer are injured?? Yes, I am well aware they are claiming nondescript injuries but they could actually SHOW UP in Hawaii. If you're actually injured you obviously sit on the bench but fuck an asshole who gets voted in and then claims injury so he can golf and cry into his www.germangoogirls.com for crying out loud.

Haha I like the idea of the midseason all-star game except then you don't get the "drunken and/or hungover fat man challenge" that is the Pro Bowl. Or would you still?

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, all-stars vs Detroit- it could work because both teams would be mutually exclusive OMG WTF!!!11!1

quick look at AFC and inclusion of Cutler is tickling me although i guess defensible somehow. Jason Peters has been poor by his standards for as much of the season as he was around for and it's great for Buffalo that he is being rewarded for that.

i dunno, Slaton was beaten out by dudes who had real good seasons.

i assume Eli was dropped in to make up the numbers because they couldn't find 3 good QBs in the NFC.

you make that assumption after reading the afc's list of qbs?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 22:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Kris Dielman is a weird pick. The whole Chargers offensive line has been pretty bad this year, especially rushing.

Haha guys I am actually watching the pro bowl? I am @ this pho restaurant in the burbs and there are basically a bunch of Vietnamese dudes sitting at a table smoking and watching this game on a giant flat screen tv. I feel like maybe I should explain that nobody who likes NFL cares much abt the pro bowl

NFL RUNOFF miss u plaxico (daria-g), Sunday, 8 February 2009 23:05 (fifteen years ago) link

That Fitzgerald catch @ end of the half.. OK glad I saw that, makes you wonder if only Warner had one more shot downfield.

NFL RUNOFF miss u plaxico (daria-g), Sunday, 8 February 2009 23:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Pro bowl would be cool if they just throw it to Fitzgerald on every down and score based on which catch is the most ridiculous vs same on afc side with Randy Moss

NFL RUNOFF miss u plaxico (daria-g), Sunday, 8 February 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link

sort of unrelated, but can i ask about the pho joint? my gf is a ig fan of the pho and i just had my first experience at the eden center last weekend. it was most illuminating.

j.q higgins, Monday, 9 February 2009 03:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Mr. Pho, it's out in uh, Falls Church or something, down Rt 50 at the far end of that giant ass shopping center with a Target and a Safeway. It was pretty good. last year I had some very excellent pho @ a place in Annandale on 236, a big restaurant in a nondescript shopping center, but.. that doesn't exactly narrow it down! I'd have to drive over there and probably wander around for a half hour to find it again.

anyway the owner of Mr. Pho says, about all the guys sitting there smoking & watching pro bowl, they all get together there during the season to watch Redskins games. there are a couple small TVs and one big flatscreen, all showing football. so.. next season, I will most def have to find a way to hang out there on a few Sundays. pho + vietnamese coffee + NFL, what more do you want really.
