If you were really Scandinavian, you'd be so busy eating things like lye-soaked cod and rotting shark that a little barbecue sauce or a corn dog would be culinary child's play.

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Also I think John misparsed my sentence. ;_;

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I usually deny the Norwegian thing for the reason of LUTEFISK (who's going to defend *that*?!), but lefse... yes, I'll have some plz.

Also I have eaten plenty of questionable things in my life.

this is all getting very 2g1c

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

I have no idea how to interpret "2g1c"

AHEM. My best example: raw crab. Bad taste, horrific texture.

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:32 (fifteen years ago) link

there is a great SUMMERTIME CORNDOG FUNSTAND about 3 blocks from me, its like i live next door to a state fair 5 months a year!

deeznuts, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

(xp) I would tell you to google it but I like you.

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Really, just the bacterial contamination issue alone is TERRIFYING

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

you know I STILL have never seen that awful, awful thing

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:41 (fifteen years ago) link

In college we decided that corn dogs were the perfect food because they have all four food groups: corn (grain), dog (meat), breading (made with dairy), and ketchup (veggie/fruit if you pull the "tomato is a fruit" crap). I live by that reasoning still.

Euler, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:42 (fifteen years ago) link

That is my thinking about PIZZA

I'm impressed that you have resisted thus far. xp

NATURE'S PERFECT FOOD

Abbott, Monday, 4 August 2008 20:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Raw crab?
Also, not Norwegian and I will defend lutefisk.

But I like almost anything that is smoked or pickled.

aimurchie, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Or soaked in LYE?!

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Man Sara I'm a filthy vegetarian and even I like corndogs (Abbs otm in re: Satan's Meatless Corndogs).

en i see kay, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link

My best friend and her husband are vegetarians and they eat those all the time. I just cannot, seeing as how I don't even like real corndogs!

Gah, I'm surrounded on all sides.

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

surrounded by corn dogs = HEAVEN

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:23 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf who's wasting time wielding a corndog when you could be eating it? psychos

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:24 (fifteen years ago) link

mr yuk sticker

jergïns, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:24 (fifteen years ago) link

the corn dogs at Cedar Point have got to be the best in the world. They're not frozen: they take the dog, skewer it, dip it in batter, and fry it.

I would like to try corn bratwurst sometime

Euler, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, that sounds better.

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

wait, I just thought of the most amazing idea

corncorn

HI DERE, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

uhhh how do you typically buy corn dogs at stands? do they take them out of a freezer & microwave them in front of you?

deeznuts, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Shit.

Sara R-C, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Jesus, this is the perfect food for me to make for the house of four dudes I currently live with.

It's meatless for me, yet shows the kind of trademark disregard for all food-related decency that makes the early-20's American male salivate.

Minnesotans don't eat lutefisk. They only have it on the store shelves for show. Minnesotans eat Leann Chin's orange chicken, and are terrified of eating at any restaurant that is not a fast food chain.

Except.. I guess my grandpa used to make and eat clabber. I don't know if that's because he was Minnesotan or drunk.

Also I am mostly indifferent to corn dogs.

rollerbeef, Thursday, 7 August 2008 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

This is simultaneously a Raymond Carver short story and a Zen koan.

"The Veldt" is still terrifying

whelping at his sandpapery best (DJP), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Dan - it's in my Netflix queue, just haven't been in a vampire-y mood since reading that. Loved the first two _Walking Dead_ graphic novels and am lobbying for more of them for Mother's Day.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, man, "The Veldt" is what got me hooked...

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I used to go to the library and use the CARD CATALOG to find Bradbury books that weren't on the HSTNGS shelves. I remember using little slips of paper to make requests. Sometimes it even worked!

I feel like there's probably some lower GI effects possible here, too, but I'll refrain from elaborating.

The Louvin Spoonful (WmC), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:58 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess I'd better try to find some spending money!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:58 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe you could sell some of your magic beans that you grow in imaginationville

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll sell you a thousand acres there. I think you'll like it, as long as you stay away from some of the stupider stuff (if you see someone sparkling in the sunlight, RUN!).

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

oh no, you have ravers

whelping at his sandpapery best (DJP), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:09 (thirteen years ago) link

haven't figured out how to eradicate them yet

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:10 (thirteen years ago) link

tried feeding them the magic beans, but that just led to unpleasant intestinal problems for them, which quickly becomes a problem for everyone else

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:10 (thirteen years ago) link

PS John - do NOT eat the magic beans!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:11 (thirteen years ago) link

you can repel them with liberal doses of Nickelback

side-effects include: having to listen to Nickelback

whelping at his sandpapery best (DJP), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:11 (thirteen years ago) link

lol, could be worse

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:12 (thirteen years ago) link

a neverending loop of "Achy Breaky Heart" will repel *anything*

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:12 (thirteen years ago) link

you can also thin them out by asking to see their resumes

whelping at his sandpapery best (DJP), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 23:14 (thirteen years ago) link

but the ones who stay will be super-persistent and will regale you with tales of their work experience, so it's best to use this strategy judiciously
