blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 12:49 (sixteen years ago) link

dude i don't know if Suspended in Gaffa will steal this! so tough

Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I voted for "The Dreaming" but I love everything on this album so I'm fine with whatever.

Tim F, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link

A Hounds of Love poll would be much more high-stakes for me: i'd be shattered if I was the only person to vote for "Hello, Earth", but curiously uncomfortable if it won.

Tim F, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

um i would ABSOLUTELY vote for Hello EArth.

i think

Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

YES. i would.

cutty, Saturday, 11 August 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

i remember buying the single of "sat in your lap" and being totally enamoured of it for weeks on end. it just seemed like such a leap from her previous work.

drone/a/sore, Sunday, 12 August 2007 04:41 (sixteen years ago) link

and it was!

sleeve, Sunday, 12 August 2007 06:59 (sixteen years ago) link

voted for houdini just because no-one else mentioned it

akm, Sunday, 12 August 2007 15:29 (sixteen years ago) link

i do not like houdini

cutty, Sunday, 12 August 2007 15:47 (sixteen years ago) link

what??? those lush strings and her VOICE

"WITH YOUR LIFE

THE ONLY THING IN MY MIND

WE PULL YOU FROM THE WAAATTEEEERRRR!"

Surmounter, Sunday, 12 August 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

i love when that part comes on and i have friends over. they just kinda look at me weird.

Surmounter, Sunday, 12 August 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

that post was self-zinging

bobby bedelia, Sunday, 12 August 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Have to vote for the title track here.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 12 August 2007 18:00 (sixteen years ago) link

the only bad thing about this album is the rubbish black type on white background fucking up the cover

akm, Monday, 13 August 2007 03:52 (sixteen years ago) link

such a tough call, but there goes a tenner just to make sure it gets some love.

shanissey, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Heheh. I was just going to say that song should get some love.

One of the rabble

Surmounter, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:18 (sixteen years ago) link

why did i post Luv the cover completely out of the blue?

okay bump

Surmounter, Thursday, 16 August 2007 14:55 (sixteen years ago) link

wow, they're all great songs.

i could almost go with 'sat in your lap'

but i'm not gonna.

NOT TILL I'M READY FOR YOU-HOO-HOOO

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 16 August 2007 15:04 (sixteen years ago) link

=)

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 16 August 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I would vote for "Hello Earth" as well ... then again I just voted for "All The Love"

zaxxon25, Thursday, 16 August 2007 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link

oooh. well i'm on the HoL poll next

Surmounter, Thursday, 16 August 2007 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Good on you! Someone should do that.

Bimble, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Dominique, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:32 (sixteen years ago) link

ILX System, Saturday, 18 August 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

i love the lyrics to get out of my house.

Surmounter, Saturday, 18 August 2007 23:10 (sixteen years ago) link

see the hackles on the cat - STANDING

impudent harlot, Sunday, 19 August 2007 07:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Damnit the suspense is killing me with this poll.

Bimble, Sunday, 19 August 2007 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 19 August 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

wow guyz. i do feel tho that night of the swallow and pull out the pin are underrepresented.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:25 (sixteen years ago) link

HoL poll question - should I include the bonus tracks? I haven't even heard them (Lagan Love etc), cuz they didn't come with my copy, so I'm thinking No.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

"Leave It Open" particularly hard done by.

This album ranked:

The Dreaming
Leave it Open
Night of the Swallow
Suspended In Gaffa
Pull Out The Pin
Sat In Your Lap
Get Out of My House
All The Love
There Goes A Tenner
Houdini

Tim F, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:38 (sixteen years ago) link

my choice wuz robbed! I am proud to represent.

sleeve, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Voters were likely swayed by the presence of sampled donkey imitations.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I used to think Leave it Open was a weak spot, but I've fallen in love with her lithe and freaky glam vocal in the intro, totally perfect.

Alex xy, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

i agree with the top 3 :)

but yeah, for me its really hard to rank this album. i find it extremely even overall.

Charlie Howard, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm glad I voted, or "Suspended in Gaffa" would have come in second!

nabisco, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

haha

suspended in Gaffa is so rich.

okay so i'm doing the HoL poll w/out bonus tracks then. speak now or forever hold it.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link

without is more pure. besides, i haven't heard the bonus tracks :(

Charlie Howard, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Interesting results indeed. I too would have picked Leave It Open last.

Bimble, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 01:49 (sixteen years ago) link

how did i miss this poll, what the hell

suspended in gaffa is easily in my top 3 songs all-thyme, right there with hunger strike and total eclipse of the heart

Yeah, my buddy has decided he's totally in love with Kate on the basis of his recent discovery of Hounds of Love, but until he learns to appreciate this album he's not really a Kate fan at all in my book.

To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Friday, 10 April 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

four years pass...

still a fucked up album

surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:09 (ten years ago) link

and still one of the best vocal deliveries ever on "if you go, i'll let the law know"

surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:24 (ten years ago) link

Pull Out The Pin, Leave It Open, Sat In Your Lap and There Goes A Tenner are my favorites. This or Aerial must be her best album.

jay., Thursday, 27 March 2014 08:29 (ten years ago) link

wtf @ firstly, me missing this poll and secondly, "leave it open" coming last. easily my pick

lex pretend, Thursday, 27 March 2014 09:08 (ten years ago) link

Definitely. My #1 in the overall Kate Bush poll in Aug 2012!

Michael Jones, Thursday, 27 March 2014 10:48 (ten years ago) link

missed this but it wouldve been "pull the pin" or something from side 2. such a great album.

brimstead, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:41 (ten years ago) link

yea leave it open is some modern next level shit

to this day i still can't really talk about pull out the pin bc she's too good on it

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 00:57 (ten years ago) link

glad to see "all the love" represented here -- I mean I'd have voted for get out of my house obviously but that's one of kate's most underrated tracks

katherine, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:03 (ten years ago) link

i RATE it! highhhhhly

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:56 (ten years ago) link

i think i've played it after some especially bad social engagements

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 17:15 (ten years ago) link

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 17:20 (ten years ago) link

No way!

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 20:35 (seven years ago) link

Suspended in Gaffa - which has one of the best internal monologues in any pop song ever

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:07 (seven years ago) link

It's hard to say what I would have voted for, this is an incredibly strong album. Is it my favourite Kate LP, though? Nah, that would be Never For Ever.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:21 (seven years ago) link

It's tough but right now Leave it Open seems right.

things that decay things that rust

JoeStork, Friday, 31 March 2017 21:42 (seven years ago) link

Houdini.

Max Florian, Friday, 31 March 2017 22:41 (seven years ago) link

It feels wrong and crude to pick a favorite from this album, but I guess I'd go with "pull the pin" or the last track.

a but (brimstead), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:03 (seven years ago) link

Pull Out the Pin. Very easy choice. The album is a stunner, and it features probably the best use of the Farlight CMI ever

beamish13, Friday, 31 March 2017 23:28 (seven years ago) link

I don't know if about best, but when it comes to albums where the Fairlight CMI played a huge role, then The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are definitely in there among the best examples.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:41 (seven years ago) link

This is impossible; LIO was robbed.

chihuahuau, Saturday, 1 April 2017 09:13 (seven years ago) link

two years pass...

So Wild Beasts stole their entire Cockney-criminal art-pop schtick from "There Goes A Tenner," huh?

goodoldneon, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 21:03 (four years ago) link

I am proud to have been the only vote for "Leave It Open"
