God, really? I watched the cringingly bad opening titles and the first sketch and reckoned that was enough for me. James Bond lives with his mum! It reminded me of Harry Enfield.

But I agree that it looked good compared to that Jennifer Saunders thing. I seem to remember people used to think Miranda Richardson was good, at one time.

I think the idea is that the first epidsode set up a lot of the jokes and that they'll reoccur throughout the show but with bizarre twists. I thought the Beatles section was true genius, and the Al Pacino impression.

As I said on the other thread - likeable silliness, high proportion of dross, peculiar that a good physical comic/vocal talent like PS did his best work when he couldn't be seen/heard (LAY s1). Vader and the Gem woman best this week, I think.

I s'pose what irks me the most about contemporary sketch comedy are the huge production budgets spent on threadbare material (BBC3 trash like Tittybangbang are worse offenders, in terms of laffs/£, I guess); when I were a lad Absolutely and ABoFaL had to cope with a dodgy moustache and some cardboard sets and were k-max funnee to the nth.

i thought the vader sketch went nowhere this week.

i thought this week's was the funniest yet with vader, butterfield, caveman chatline, oh, a bunch of other touches. the P69. RIP MOM.

i misread ABoFaL as Absolutely Fabulous and wondered for a minute what mike had been smoking.

Again, I was ambivalent. His impressions are still great- Kevin Spacey was very good- but there's not much else there, apart from an eye for a good pastiche.

Also, does anyone find being repeatedly told that "Thursdays are funny" actively puts you off enjoying any of BBC2's offerings? Particularly when Thursday evenings are comprised of the mediocre PS show, the terrible Jennifer Saunders vehicle, and the even-more-terrible Graham Norton?

The Vader in Love thing, Ringo's "Goldfiner" and the Kevin Spacey ("don't take it personally - I just hate women") skit = comedy gold.

Still the best thing is his Beatles impressions. I love the way he can not only sing and act like each individual Beatle, but he can also do Ringo Bloddy Starr after he's been living in the States for a while. Also, Benedict Wong as Yoko is classic. He's highly underrated, that guy - really funny in Fifteen Stories High and in Look Around You as the Medibot fella.

I love Benedict Wong so much. I didn't realise it was him for the first two episodes because his skin's got a bit weird but he did a real Errol face in the Weakest Link bit on Peter S on Thu. Although WHY are people still doing non-hilarious Weakest Link pastiches? cf also Mitchell & Webb. This week's was def the best yet - all pretty spot-on apart from that and the Bon Appetiques thing. Although! The Gary Numan---> Gary Oldman joke is MINE! (arising from the fact I used to get the two confused in conversation at least).

The Ringo Starr thing was awesome, I can't really figure out why.

watched this for the first time this week ... liked the darth vader thing a lot, and ... er, there were other bits i laughed at, too. ringo v good, and the david lynch/diarrhoea thing quite funny.

i did think "hmm, this is a bit sub-viz" at the cavemen sketch and the gravy one ... and then i was sure i saw a couple of erstwhile viz contributors' names in the writing credits as they zoomed by.

Yeah.. it was very good and all that, but I did have to wonder "How much value is a Rigsby impression thesedays? One up from "Ooh Betty" but there you go!.

True enough, but it did actually make me laugh!

Only saw the last 5-6min last night due to the football, but it's stuff like Rigsby that makes me like Serafinowicz. I mean, I used to do impersonations of Rigsby in the playground at school - he's just kept it up all these years! Hopefully he'll do Phil Oakey at some point. Or Mr Burls, my metalwork teacher.

saw my first whole ep last night. one actual laugh in half an hour - cheese for liars - although i appreciated rigsby. don't understand why it isn't working for me - i think i want him to be far more surreal.

See, this is what happens. I watch a bit of a comedy show, think it's quite good, Dawn comes in, and immediately the comedy becomes rubbish (the chat to a drunk on your telephone), and it is ENDED!

This utterly blows my mind (there was some thread about laugh tracks that got really heated - it might have been Sandbox era - but I still can't believe anyone would want a laugh track on anything, under any circumstances.

michael 6 is very one dimensional. didn't enjoy much of last night's at all apart from the cheese and the ice cubes with artificial sweetener.

His own show was, unfortunately, not really a showcase of his best work. I think they took too much advantage of his gift for impersonation. Which is kind of undeniable. But he has a really funny, surreal sense of humor (e.g. Look Around You) that wasn't as present in the show as it should've been. I think I just like him. His Twitter is one of my faves.

The Butterworth stuff was the best thing about the sketch show. Bon bon bon bons.
