I love Jackass, I didn't know they were doing a movie. I won't be able to see it at the cinema though because it makes me laugh too much and then I have coughing fits and I don't want to lose all dignity in public, even if is dark public. It takes me about 5 days to recover from watching each episode.

did anybody see the x-files episode where there was a fake jackass? they called it dumbass and some guy on it had his skull collapse in because flies ate his brain at a fantastic rate...
i'd never really watched the x-files - has it always been so comedy?!

This will be the greatest thing in history. I'm assured of it. Jonny Knoxville is the only man who can challenge Steve Irwin for the title of "Greatest Human Alive"

The movie never gets old, does it?

The yellow snow-cone scene almost made me barf.

The only bad scene is where one of them takes a dump in the demonstration toilet. Someone had to clean that up, yuck.

I've never really seen the TV show (half an ep here and there) or the CKY videos, which should come next?

the shorter the bits are in this the better. none of them are bad bad but yeah the toilet, the old ppl, the toy truck up the guy's ass, ehhh. the 12-sec one of the guy trampolining into a ceiling fan is one of the most amazing things i've ever seen.

demonlolver (gcannon), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:38 (eighteen years ago) link

my fave is still the guys falling out of the ceiling on the "failed jewel heist" thing. I was crying due to laughing so hard.

as my normally stoic roommate said of the movie at the time: "Best $8 i spent all year."

jackass 1 was of of the greatest ever, a true contender, genius etc.

i feel genuinely bad for those who cannot, for whatever reason (childhood bed wetting trauma, republicanism, overly conceptual mindstate), enjoy it.

i've never understood that, either. it must be pretty awful. especially people who watch it, but then look away/cover their face during the painful/gross out bits.
why are you watching it at all!?
i watched that episode where they sit there drinking a gallon of milk because i knew they'd spew it up again, not because i like watching people drink milk.
TEH MIND, IT DOES BOGGLE.

what do you people think of 'dirty sanchez'?

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i always thought it really funny that the Onion AV Club sent their only female critic to review the flick, who had absolutely no idea how to process it. It's like the editors realized that the movie was critic-proof, so they figured they have a bit of fun by sending the chick reviewer to see it.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:01 (seventeen years ago) link

The difference between Jackass and Dirty Sanchez is that the only "entertainment" value in DS comes from them hurting themselves, it's like a skateboarding video writ large. In Jackass, the stuff is funny even if they don't get injured. I'd give examples but, y'know.

If only I had this problem.

re: Bam tears - he fears teh snakes and was locked in a pen with a King Cobra. Dastardly. Most of the special I watched last night was the guys complaining about how evil and cruel their director(jeff tremaine) is. Apparantly with the fame all they are left with is pain-inducing stunts on each other and dressing up as old folx.

From the NY Times review, where they usually reveal why it got a rating ("Strong Sexual Content, Drug Use")

“Jackass Number Two” is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). Things you can’t even imagine.

Just about the only thing that could make this movie any gayer would be cameos from John Waters and Rip Taylor and a closing Busby Berkley-style musical production number. Oh wait, it's got those too.

One thing I also love about Jackass is that they nearly always pull pranks on each other rather than random people, and it has a remarkably KIP vibe for what could easily get ugly

I tried to rewatch one of Bam's CKY movies recently and had to turn it off. The vibe is gross, lots of slurs, mean pranks on strangers. Even though it has a bunch of the elements I like about Jackass

I've showed my kids a couple of clips here and there and they just don't really get it. I've gotta assume a steady diet of tik tok et al has innured them to some of it's charms. At the same time, there are some Jackass gross eating gags I just don't think I can stomach anymore. Downing freshly expressed horse semen? Eating a vomit omelette? I dunno, man ...

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 July 2021 12:16 (two years ago) link

I don't remember if they're from the show or the movies but I can't watch the fishhook or paper cut sketches

Vinnie, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:05 (two years ago) link

yeah the paper cut bit is by far the most upsetting one for me, have never been able to watch it.

thats interesting about your kids josh. never thought of it that way but i guess that raw skate video clip look that felt so fresh and exciting at the time (no host, no sets, not plot, no point) is the dominant format of online video now & must not look special at all to young eyes.

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:23 (two years ago) link

first time I saw the first movie was in high school with like 15 other people, literally no one could watch the papercut scene. its annoying but I guess that's part of their thing, it's not Jackass if they can't freak out the entire audience

frogbs, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:53 (two years ago) link

Mentioned before, but a hunk of the Jackass crew was maybe two years younger than me at my high school. Lots of the show and movies feature destruction of/at sites in and around my home town. Couple of the jackasses bullied my younger sister so bad (I was gone by then, iirc) she left school early.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 July 2021 13:59 (two years ago) link

first time I saw the first movie was in high school with like 15 other people, literally no one could watch the papercut scene.

Because it's a lot more relatable than some of the other stuff. Croquet ball in the nuts? A rare experience. Savage paper cut from a manila envelope? We've all felt that pain.
