took me a long time to get into this album, but i really like it now. "bottom," with "undertow" a close second.

to me, "bottom" is one of the few songs where they really wear their influences on their sleeves. there was a time where i really had a hard time telling the difference between rollins and maynard's voices on this song. "bottom" is also a song i really wish they'd pull out in a live set.

Definitely "Bottom."

There's a lot filler on this album.

Agreed. It's a charming piece of work (as much as Tool can be called "charming," I suppose) but it's flawed, uneven.

Prison Sex for the blood shit and cum line. This is my favourite Tool album actually, later ones got too into trickiness at the expense of rocking.

And great for the pun "feel it inside of me!!!" ("feel it in sodomy").

There's some shitty pop song that was inescapable for a few years-- maybe that "Kryptonite" song, I can't remember-- where the dude says "inside of me" a lot and I always heard "sodomy," which was always a pick-me-up.

what do you guys mean by filler? like they only had enough good material for an EP but it feels like they added stuff to make it a full length? or just the quality of songwriting is uneven? what songs are filler?

Ironically, it sounds much less ominous on the Tool song than it does here (see 2:24):

Intolerance 0

Really??

yeah that's a bit surprising to me too. it's got one of the most memorable hooks(?) on that album.

the other two songs that went without votes are less surprising, though not throwaway tracks by any means. the only thing about "crawl away" that i really don't like is the rhyme scheme "say, pay, me (pronounced may)." "disgustipated" has always been frustrating because of how drawn out that intro is, but its a gem once it gets going. it would've been interesting to see them try and play it live.

this is one of the first cd's i purchased and i'm kinda disappointed i didn't vote. i don't know what i would've voted for though, it's been probably 10 years since i've listened to it.

intolerance is definitely one of the better tracks, though. i expected that to be in the top half of the results.

three years pass...
one year passes...

It is impossible to overstate how bored every non-MJK band member looks in that clip.

Sounds like very early Jane's or even Psi-Com

otm. Crawl Away is magnificent, too.

two years pass...

I listened for maybe the first time this century, and it exceeded my memories of it - banger after banger tbh.

However, I'd forgotten about the Rollins guest verse. When he says "I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain" I guffawed, which is probably not the intended reaction.

I hope it SUCKS! I hope it SUCKS YOU FUCKER!

I haven't looked through the whole thing yet but I think there's a section in Sylvia Massy's book detailing the proper way to mic shotguns and pianos for this purpose.
