three weeks pass...

* As requested by Tonetta, whom currently does not appear live
himself, a band has been formed to represent and perform as him. Lead by Brooks Nielsen, lead singer of The Growlers, under the direction and guidance of Tonetta himself, a selection of unheard songs as well as tracks from the record will be performed.

This is the first in what we hope to be many theatrical live apperances from Tonetta.

Also LP is ready and black tent has been putting some new utube jams up. "it's a sin" is really good.

Bangelo, Monday, 31 May 2010 15:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh man, a Tonetta approved representative band?!?!?! This is brilliant! It's like when Prince gave us the Time!

Fetchboy, Monday, 31 May 2010 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link

OK this record arrived in the mail today, I have now had the appropriate numbers of beers (3) and am putting it on.

Nice silkscreen action, and hand numbering is always a nice touch. 18 songs!

LP also includes a CD of the LP in a color sleeve, plus color insert with amazing photos.

tracklist is two songs more than listed above, adding "A REALLY BIG COCK" and 'RED WHITE MALE".

sound is good, seems like the same recordings.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

PISS AND SHIT

NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ANYMORE

this is his "Smells Like Teen Spirit" imo except it's the first track on side 2 instead of the leadoff.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 23:53 (thirteen years ago) link

YOU GOT TOO MUCH is A+ party jam and I think it's clean as well (listening for that because I do a daytime radio show and I really want to play this)

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 23:56 (thirteen years ago) link

putting the "Get Back" quote into "Toronto Is Starting To Stink" works much better near the end of the LP, sequencing as a whole is really good here.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 23:58 (thirteen years ago) link

... and having DEVIL DEVIL come last proves that point

I think this is my favorite record of the year so far.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 00:00 (thirteen years ago) link

i really am not down with a 20 buck cd, but i might make an exception.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 2 June 2010 04:41 (thirteen years ago) link

just buy the LP, only 5 bucks more and you get a 12"x12" color insert and a CD

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link

this seriously owns

#1 record of the year, and i don't even know what #2 is

"red white and blue" is a crucial add to side 2 of this

keep wishing "pump it" or "it's all bullshit" were on it, but beggars can't be choosers etc

I laid this on a good friend and co-DJ with no info, he said it reminded him of some of Kim Fowley's solo stuff ("except more foul-mouthed"). on reflection, that totally makes sense.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 03:52 (thirteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Can I play "A Really Nice Cock" on an FM broadcast?

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 18:25 (thirteen years ago) link

269-BONE

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 18:28 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe during safe harbor hours?

69, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Think I'll just hedge my bets and play "Still a Slave."
My station doesn't really believe in safe harbor, buncha paranoids.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 20:01 (thirteen years ago) link

even with a disclaimer cart? that IS paranoid...

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 21:14 (thirteen years ago) link

also, "Peeping Tom" is airsafe, only has the word "crap".

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 23 June 2010 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link

four weeks pass...

New old Tonettas on Black Tent's channel are really good. Singer songwritery sometimes with an island vibe.

bamcquern, Thursday, 22 July 2010 23:11 (thirteen years ago) link

I love this stuff, but the videos really distract you from how awesome the music is.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Thursday, 22 July 2010 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link

See sometimes I think he should have put out a DVD cuz the videos take it to the next level.

Trip Maker, Friday, 23 July 2010 00:11 (thirteen years ago) link

True or false: Tonetta LP mastered kind of low.

bamcquern, Thursday, 29 July 2010 21:25 (thirteen years ago) link

extremely true and extremely low. i have to have that thing dialed in at like noon

Bangelo, Thursday, 29 July 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

I had friends over and put it on and it was embarrassing.

bamcquern, Thursday, 29 July 2010 21:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Might not have been a problem with the mastering tbh

Trip Maker, Thursday, 29 July 2010 21:39 (thirteen years ago) link

You mean it could be a problem with the source material or that I'd be embarrassed for another reason. I wasn't really embarrassed, by the way. That was an embellishment.

The CD sounds fine, though.

bamcquern, Thursday, 29 July 2010 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I just mean that Tonetta is some potentially extremely embarrassing music, jus kiddin around. My friend ordered the lp and I ripped the cd so that is what I've been listening to and I agree that it does sound fine, much better than the youtube rips. Haven't listened to the lp.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 29 July 2010 22:17 (thirteen years ago) link

This is truly one of the great "outsider" music discoveries of a long time. Just when you thought there was nothing new under the sun...Album of the year potential, but it might technically be a reissue/comp.

MFB, Thursday, 29 July 2010 22:39 (thirteen years ago) link

so wait; there was only 500 pressed and they're still available? Can that be right?

i'm gonna need a +1 so me & a friend can kick you in the balls (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 29 July 2010 22:44 (thirteen years ago) link
