Does "never" trying it again mean "never"? Because Mariah Carey had a pivotal role in Precious, even if it was minor.

Björk's been in other movies, you've just never seen them.

Mark Kozelek was only in "Almost Famous", though I'm not sure playing what's effectively yrself counts.

also doesn't count if you did two films after your first one instead of never trying it again

none of his three are "starring" though

Tom Waits has been in 26 movies to date, starting with Paradise Alley in 1978 and running all the way up to The Book of Eli this year.

Can't believe I'm the first one to mention Bob Geldof.

ed kowalczyk as a waiter in fight club, what a fun cameo that was

electra glide in blue had several of the dudes from chicago in it

Cetera was also in some made-for-TV Sidney Sheldon movie in the 90s. I only this because of a bar trivia question that went "how many times has a movie character played Peter Cetera been killed?" (the answer is 2)

xxpost yeah, I almost prefer Tom Waits since 1978 as an actor to his musical work since then.

Which reminds me, I have a poll to start...

As far as I can tell, How I Won the War was Lennon's only film in which he played a fictional character. The rest of his acting credits on IMDB consist of A Hard Day's Night, Help!, archival footage, and a film directed by Yoko and himself (in which they appear as themselves).

and Rollins was in Lost Highway, Jack Frost, Bad Boys II, Wrong Turn 2, The Devil's Tomb (had to look that one up, but he talked about it a lot on the 2008 tour) and probably a dozen or so other b-movies and Hollywood bit parts; acting's how he funds 2.13 these days.

He's also in Shopgirl... basically playing himself again.

Richard Hell was in one film. I saw it. I can't remember the name of it. It starts with a girl going all through the NYC subways sticking pictures of herself to train windows with dish detergent.

@ (e_3): Thanks for the memory re. Smithereens. It was a fun flick. And I forgot about Desperately Seeking Susan. Sorry. In fact, having been reminded, I still don't remember Richard being in it. That's the way it goes. :-)

According to IMDB, Tim Buckley was only in two movies, but one of them was an uncredited part. Supposedly at the time of his death he was in the running to play Woody Guthrie in Bound for Glory.

Roomful of Moogs (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 10 May 2010 21:26 (thirteen years ago) link

And of course, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová have said Once will be their only film (aside from Hansard being in The Commitments but who cares).

Tony Bennett - The Oscar

Damn, looks like Johnny Cash starred in two movies. (And a shitload of TV.)

I think there's a bunch of country stars who did this, but they all seem to have kept making more; Toby Keith's got two already!
