I'm playing on a 3 year old laptop withal 128 meg video card and on LQ it looks good and is quite smooth.

mine's only 2 years old and runs terrible, even on LQ

kclu, do you have a video card or integrated graphics?

calstars, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:32 (nine years ago) link

btw Command Centers now have offensive ability

calstars, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:32 (nine years ago) link

...though not when they're airborne (unfortunately)

calstars, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:32 (nine years ago) link

my number one wished for ability for the command center was for it to land on other units (possible your own)

going non-native (dyao), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:35 (nine years ago) link

pretty sure integrated

went ham in a bad way (stevie), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 08:50 (nine years ago) link

It looks awesome. I hope it runs on my 2 year old iMac.

The original starcraft caused me to flunk out of college the first time. I would play that shit for 20 hours a day.

Jeff, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 12:03 (nine years ago) link

my pc has an NVIDIA GeForce 7150m / nForce 630M, which should be good enough, I think.

so is it the processor..?

kclu, Thursday, 6 May 2010 19:27 (nine years ago) link

oh, my processor is only 2.0 GHz.

kclu, Thursday, 6 May 2010 19:33 (nine years ago) link

This beta test is pretty awesome. It's a lot like the original SC, but I feel like the races are a little more differentiated and have a definite flavor. The existing units and abilities kind of got shifted around so it's a very different game in that the strategies are different, but the gameplay is nearly identical to the original.

mh, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 17:34 (nine years ago) link

I'm so terrible at it. :(

Mordy, Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:58 (nine years ago) link

this game is sick, you have to play soooo much to be good. i still love getting my ass kicked, though.

cough splutter, snatched from an amazon review is this true?

"this is only a third of the game, the first part of three. You can only play the Terran campaign. The Zerg and the Protoss campaigns will be released independently later "

F-Unit (Ste), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 14:23 (nine years ago) link

as far as I know, that's true

"There's no way a Filipino can hold a championship trophy." (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 15:16 (nine years ago) link

I played against a friend of mine who's korean american and he was almost as fast. tbh I don't think it's difficult to achieve that level, you just need to be willing to put in the time to slog through all those practice sessions. it's not really any different from being really good at touch typing or any other kind of twitch gaming.

Starcraft II being a 3logy is old news y'all! The full game is shipping multi-wise though, I think the later installments are going to be just single-player with additions to multi kind of like expansion packs. Except that they're gonna charge full price for each and make them standalone. Blizzard's not used to not making a trillion dollars on every release, see.

Wouldnt be surprised if there were missions in the human campaign where you can control the other races' units.

mayor jingleberries, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 19:51 (nine years ago) link

is this really $60?? wtf :|

so only $180 for the whole thing

kim cardassian (s1ocki), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:16 (nine years ago) link

but think of the value! and think about $180 in comparison to the inevitable charges you will inevitably incur playing world of starcraft!

SAVINGS.

this game is so great! bear in mind i hate multiplayer and will probably never do anything except the single-player campaign.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 30 July 2010 07:55 (nine years ago) link

i feel the exact opposite about the single player, i feel like they missed so much fo what has made SP storytellnig better in games over the past... how long ago did HL2 come out? 10 years?

seriously, why is everything in a goddamn cutscene? the in-between levels shit feels almost liek sam and max in its "i guess i am doing sometihng, because i click a thing and then i listen for 45 seconds" nonsense (minus the sam and max jokes-ness of it all). TALK TO ME WHILE I'M PLAYING. it's not insanely hard. to be fair i'm 3 missions in but i have decided i don't give an eff about the cutscenes already, and i am kind of not that dude usually. now i'm pissed that i am missing all of the (enthralling, i'm sure) story.

the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of ilx posters (Will M.), Friday, 30 July 2010 12:13 (nine years ago) link

will this run on my old macbook pro? tf2 is barely playable even with a ton of custom config stuff, hl2 is ok tho

probably not

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 30 July 2010 19:37 (nine years ago) link

it might run, but prob not well enough for multiplayer and that's where the fun's at

I have to say I really like the trial mode for this- just got a code from a friend, and it looks like it's the whole damn game, just locked to 7 hours of play. Downloading now.

After reading a ton load of articles for the past month, and having a sick curiosity about this, I'm thinking that this weekend will be the one to try it out.

I only see a few tiny problems.

1) I'm not that into battlefield tactics games.

2) The last point & click game I really enjoyed was Syndicate on the Amiga.

3) I have two young kids and no free time whatsoever.

4) I've lost my mouse.

5) I don't play space marine games.

This can't be a bad idea can it?

my opinionation (Hamildan), Thursday, 14 March 2013 13:13 (six years ago) link

there's a trial version! do it.

beating up on the AI a little bit this morning. been honing my douchebag marine rush.

adam, Thursday, 14 March 2013 13:54 (six years ago) link

I'm not big on playing as the zerg so this campaign is not quite my cup of tea. The cutscenes look really good, though!

Now to wait a couple years for the inevitable protoss expansion

☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:17 (six years ago) link

I found my mouse!

my opinionation (Hamildan), Thursday, 14 March 2013 21:05 (six years ago) link

I also have two kids and no time. I haven't played in more than a year. Still confident that I could beat noobs with one hand though.

calstars, Friday, 15 March 2013 02:34 (six years ago) link

ditto, minus the kids

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 15 March 2013 02:55 (six years ago) link

So I've played this a fair bit over the weekend, kinda dig it.

its way more traditional than I thought it would be, but that i think must be the thing that keeps people hooked. I suppose when half of South Korea is lining up to f**k your golden cow, you dont change the cow...

The campaign seems to be just a massive tutorial to avoid you getting schooled in multiplayer, much like a fighting game.

the one thing I really like about it is that you can play for 20/30 mins and win/lose and be done, seeing as the only games I've played in the last year are Skyrim/Arkham city. The idea of a game that actually has a defined end appeals a lot.

There is a weird disconnect about how much it seems to be troubling my Macbook Air and how simple the graphics are, but I've literally not played a game on a Macintosh since the millenium, so who knows...

most places had it for £17 which is a price I'm cool with, but now it seems to have gone up everywhere to £26. So I'm on the fence...

Would the multiplayer be useful at all? or will everyone be on HOTS now with only me and some super l33t players still playing wings of Liberty?

my opinionation (Hamildan), Sunday, 17 March 2013 15:27 (six years ago) link

HOTS is overpriced. I'll be sticking with WoL until it comes down.

Somehow I've found myself watching lots of competitive Starcraft again. I had assumed it was dead but it seems to be going strong. I don't understand some of the new units since I haven't played since Wings of Liberty.
