trap or die 1o1

tart w/ a heart (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 May 2010 09:43 (fourteen years ago) link

it doesn't stop me enjoying hus/jacka/whatever but i feel like i came too these guys too early. (like our discussion about pill/freddie actually) there is obv talent, and whereas say pac would have honed his skills messing around on tour w/ shock g until he felt *ready*, these guys have their work instantly put on the internet. you compare them to important figures and lots of these new dudes have potential but with dance rap scenes you don't have to worry about that shit, just enjoy yrself. not eerything gotta be a srs discussion for srs ppl.

this is totally wrong dude. if anything, jacka's alraedy peaked and compares perfectly well with 'important figures,' and has classic albums under his belt, as does hus. this is nothing like Pill or Freddie & ill be shocked if either of them (particularly Pill) ends up w/ a classic record

Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Monday, 3 May 2010 12:22 (fourteen years ago) link

'jack artist' and 'hustlin since the 80s' are already considered bay area classics

Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Monday, 3 May 2010 12:23 (fourteen years ago) link

you're finding out about both of them rather late -- they were artists who have been recording for a long time before anyone on the internet heard of them -- jacka's first record is almost ten years old right now. jacka was on the cover of murder dog 2 years ago, which was probably his peak level of national awareness. IVE been late coming to them

Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Monday, 3 May 2010 12:24 (fourteen years ago) link

oh my bad, they seem like new artists to me.

tart w/ a heart (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 May 2010 14:01 (fourteen years ago) link

and i'm sure you feel much more excited to listen to them now that you've been scolded about not knowing better. the deej approach wins another fan!!

LIL B

thank you for your insight thats very important time might really be fake.

i started to even wonder how are we alive.
when other people around us die.

what does that mean to you?
and us as people.
how much time do we have?

gotta say this tracklist is promising -- all produced by krit, guests are rappers i mostly like, no signs of BoBisms...

brandon softerserve (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 07:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i love the 8ball & mjg album - nothing surprising as such - though the soulja boy track is kinda O_O - but it pushes all my buttons

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 07:51 (fourteen years ago) link

also love the mob trial bay area comp that deej recommended - "my 15th birthday", "sicilian breeze", "hott head", "sleep with da fishes" especially - but not so much the new husalah track that you all seemed to go nuts for upthread

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 07:53 (fourteen years ago) link

on one listen the new trina album - which none of you have even mentioned o_0 - is a lot better than i was expecting based on the single.

"country shit" is awesome yeah

the rural führer (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 12:59 (fourteen years ago) link

on the other hand pimp c is pimp c

the rural führer (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 12:59 (fourteen years ago) link

eMusic doesn't have the 8Ball & MJG album but does have the singles from it -- fuckers

speaking of fuckers, Grand Hustle has the #1 album in the country with their new little pop star but shuffle off the biggest legends on their roster to drop on Koch/E1? fuck outta here.

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 13:09 (fourteen years ago) link

only listened the once but i was v disappointed in that ball & g, and yeah i expected more from grand hustle - usually get the impression they think about how they present their artists (even if it is pure evil b.o.b thought) but it doesn't seem like they bothered at all with this besides signing the producer checks off. btw how many times is it that david banner's remade 'rubberband man' now? 7/8?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 14:09 (fourteen years ago) link

if you meant to type 78 then i think that's an accurate estimate

i always thought krit was more pimp c than ti, in the mathematical equation that is his persona & rap styles.

ayo for dyao (samosa gibreel), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 17:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh he definitely is more Pimp C than T.I. and that's a great thing. I'm really feeling the album... "Country Shit" of course, but that collabo with Devin is great too, just to mention a different song.

pimp c was way more distinct, t.i.'s approach was more subtle like krit's

the last ball & g was super disappointing too
