it really, really bugs me in that post how you refer to "fabolous" as "ludacris"

the most important thing i learned when i interviewed Trey Songz was that the goofy ad lib that i thought was "C'MERE" is actually "C'MON"
also, as I told Trey, I think his song off the last Step Up soundtrack is way better than the singles off the album

altho i did prince.gif at you saying it's better than "blame it" (even tho i do realize that i'm reeeeeeally on one side of the spectrum w/ that song)
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:38 (thirteen years ago) link
i like "blame it" but don't really feel strongly about it

yeah -- i REALLY feel strongly about it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:41 (thirteen years ago) link
"Bottoms Up" is OK -- i only like it at all for the vocals but the beat is beyond generic, would be good for a blend or remix w/ a new beat
― some dude, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:50 (thirteen years ago) link
you think it's better than "Say Aah"?
― some dude, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:54 (thirteen years ago) link
no
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:54 (thirteen years ago) link
& god strike me down for saying this but put that nicki verse on "say ahh" and it gets better
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:55 (thirteen years ago) link
actually in a way that fab verse is kind of perfect cuz it dates the song so heavily -- i could imagine hearing it in like three or four years and getting some kicks out of it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:56 (thirteen years ago) link
well not literally, that would be a weird clash -- but both the Fab and Nicki verses are pretty perfectly tailored to their songs
― some dude, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:56 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah it wouldn't work necessarily -- i should've just said nicki verse >>> fab verse
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 03:57 (thirteen years ago) link
fuck "say ahh"
― kkkvagz (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 05:07 (thirteen years ago) link
"bottoms up" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "say aah"
like "say aah" is the kind of song you don't mind hearing ever but don't think about other than that, "bottoms up" is the kind of song you get a bit compulsive with.
last third of the album is amazing btw
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 10:41 (thirteen years ago) link
and minaj >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> fabolous in every sense - i think there may have been maybe two fabolous verses over the years that i want to listen to again? can't stand his boring monotone voice, he's pretty much been my least favourite rapper of any stature for the past decade
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 10:42 (thirteen years ago) link
Fabulous has done guest raps on so many tracks I flatout adore that I end up liking his raps by default.
Was surprised by how much l love the drake track on theMmts album.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 11:17 (thirteen years ago) link
'unusual' you mean? what do you like about it? even irrespective of how it doesn't work on the album i would still think it easily the worst thing on there.
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 11:52 (thirteen years ago) link
"unusual" is really good, i thought - how is it out of place? it fits in perfectly with the ebbs and flows and drifts and drama of the last third.
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 12:32 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i tend to take a holistic view of the album rather than portioning it out to suit my r&b aesthete div needs. spoke of this at length on the rolling thread.

'unusual' you mean? what do you like about it?
I think just the two note string riffs, pretty much! They really make it IMO (as a side-benefit rescue the post-"1 Thing" drumkit-falling-down-the-stairs beat).
I don't like it as much as "Blind" or "Can't Be Friends" say, but I'm a corny fuxx who always falls for tunes like those so that wasn't at all surprising.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:40 (thirteen years ago) link

― haute couture wolf gang frill them all (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link
uh the offensively inept stylings of boi-1da rehashing 'over' again do not constitute any post-'1 thing' anything you heathen! how very dare you.
agree about the other's merits but are you a corny enough fuxx for 'please return my call' also?
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 21:59 (thirteen years ago) link
hahaha oh 'pain (interlude)', how could ever i forget you.
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link
Inept, yes, but I wouldn't think offensively so (then again I successfuly avoided "Over" so...). As I said, I'm surprised I really like it - in part because yeah it's a kind of nothing song with a kind of bad beat. The strings really lift it though I think.
Yes, though I'd say that's less corny (though more in line with industry-standard corniness I guess).
― Tim F, Tuesday, 9 November 2010 23:18 (thirteen years ago) link
oh wait it's "unfortunate" that i really love! i like "unusual" - and indeed drake's verse - more than i thought i would and i don't think it's out of place, just wouldn't defend it as much as "unfortunate"
― lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link
I love "Unfortunate" too but that and "Doorbell" are kinda predictably great. With "Unfortunate" I'd go so far as to say that the arrangement is so obviously awesome from the first second that the underperforming chorus is almost a let-down, but then that underperforming chorus is also kind of the point of the song and I don't know whether it would work with a big break-out moment.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 01:26 (thirteen years ago) link
Ever since someone suggested that the harmonies on "Bottoms Up" are "pure barbershop", I always envision a quartet of Treys with canes and pinstripe hats whenever I hear it.
