That sounds really good. The OTT-ness fits the track, it's not excessive at all. I think that the string sound from the intro could be used a bit more. There's a long section between the verse and the chorus that could be cut down to a 4 bar build using those strings. Also the chorus could be repeated again at the end, with all the instruments.

Thank for the kind words guys. Think I might do some cutting of tracks. The whole idea is to make a really pop/vaguely commercially viable album so I suppose keeping track lengths down is a must.

try that link again, I had to take it down, boost a little volume and then put it up again. That link ought to work now.

Link works now. I like that song. But when the guitar came in and then cut off again I was like "FUCK YEAH! er... hang on?", because it really sets up an air guitar moment that then doesn't come. So either more guitar or lose the guitar entirely.

seems like everyone had the same views on the guitar front, I'm not making this kind of music for subtleties so I added a load more guitars including a solo (lol)

^ Excellent! I think the autotune works and I love the synths in the chorus. There's something that bothers me a little about the contrast between the "Sometimes" and the rest (the autotuned part) of the verse. Either one is too loud or the other one not loud enough.

yeah, there's some mixing issues for sure in all of these tracks. I'm using a lot of software on a computer that can't quite handle it and I have but one monitor and rubbish headphones. Also there are things that i really don't understand about the way that Logic bounces. Things change seemingly at random, might try outputting it in a different way when it comes to making some tighter mixes. Glad you like it though, cheers!

Thanks, it's a VST instrument called Synth1. I made a basic FM bass patch and put it though an EQ to filter out the high end.

Wow, owenf, I really like the arrangement of "Smoke" - great sound you've got going with the disco strings fighting off the Nintendo bleeps and bloops and everything else. My gut says the vocals are mixed too high, but maybe that's what you're going for. Agreed about the late chorus - the instrumental passage between verse and chorus actually has a cool texture but it goes on long enough that it feels like we've hit the end of the song and the band are winding out with a jam, y'know? Momentum gets broken. But really a cool sound.

crut: I'm digging "People." I actually think this one could survive the vocal being louder, sort of reverberating in the medieval hall of the rest of the track if that makes sense. I like how thick the mix is for being lo-fi, when the backing vocals (synth pad?) come in it's like, I didn't even realize there was room for them in there. It's cool.

But hey, what do I know? I haven't recorded original material in years now...although I think I am finally getting close to putting the finishing touches on the Girl Talk knockoff project described upthread (in 2007!!!), after which I'm gonna break out the keyboards again and get to work. thanks jordan, no i took that as a compliment. just a shame i couldn't upload the last two tracks as they're much more detailed and better produced (if such a thing is achievable using only Acid Pro and Soundforge plus a bit of basic Reason for "effects").
