Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:19 (nineteen years ago) link

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I am grudgingly kind of on the Atkins diet for (I suspect) similar reasons as christhamrin.

i love how this has turned into a vegetarian hate thread.

fuck vegetarians.

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:58 (nineteen years ago) link

I just found a nice piece of cheese in the office fridge. I'm saving it for the drive home.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:59 (nineteen years ago) link

no no, vegetarians are perfectly okay. vegetarians who force others to be vegetarians can eat my meaty manhood.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, I guess I'd rather fuck [a] vegetarian(s).

i am helping a friend move tonight and i will be paid with indian food and beer at a local curryhouse.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

It's not quite dinner time yet, but dinner will be a spinach, arugula, and radicchio salad with chunks of apple, salmon, and feta cheese. Topping is some olive oil and balsamic.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I want to meet one of these vegetarians who forces people to only eat vegetables. I picture them knocking paper plates out of peoples' hands at BBQs.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:19 (nineteen years ago) link

(just before oops offers them his cock as punishment)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:20 (nineteen years ago) link

for dinner, i'm having leftover green curry that i made last night. lots of baby bok choy, soybean sprouts, orange peppers, and tofu. volcanically spicy. i'm forcing no one to eat it.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:30 (nineteen years ago) link

i have no time to make dinner so I'm eating a apple cinnamon cereal bar and some Stilton cheese. (was gonna have it with crackers but some assbunny did the ole 'leave two crackers in the box so I don't have to throw it away' trick)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:32 (nineteen years ago) link

I made an enormo bowl of noodle soup last night with chicken breast, dried Chinese mushrooms, spring onions, shredded Savoy cabbage, garlic and ginger. It was very simple and very satisfying. Ahh. And a can of milky bubble pearl tea to follow.

two months pass...
I am now partially through cooking the first ever proper homemade soup I have ever made, thanks to receiving a huge amount of tomatoes from a friend's garden yesterday, combined with my insatiable love for tomato soup. I am following this recipe, suggested by Stripey:

http://www.tenspeed.com/inside/page.php3?ftr=274

It already smells absolutely delicious, and I will have some fresh bread and a good red wine with it.

whooo! soup is one of my favorite things to make. now you've got me craving the tomato soup with italian chicken sausage i whipped up a few months ago.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:27 (nineteen years ago) link

italian chicken sausage

Argh, I want that, it sounds good. Bring some with you next time you're out.

The soup is coming together tremendously well, I am about to take it off the heat and add the basil (like the tomatoes, fresh from said garden).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:29 (nineteen years ago) link

make gazpacho! i just ate a can of black beans.

caitlin hell (caitxa), Thursday, 29 July 2004 00:46 (nineteen years ago) link

i ate a bratwurst earlier, and will probably eat one later!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 29 July 2004 01:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I've just a had a cup of miso soup and a small portion of chilli con carne with brown rice. I'll be making an asparagus and chorizo risotto tonight.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 29 July 2004 10:29 (nineteen years ago) link

BR: Kashi Go Lean cereal (ehh...) for breakfast
LU: Two plums, my mom's home-made pumpernickel bread, moxie!
DI: Hummel Und Erde (sweet potatoes mashed with fresh applesauce, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice), cherry tomatoes, mesclun, sunflower seeds.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Asparagus and chorizo risotto sounds heavenly. How do you ensure you don't have those horrible gristly bits that puts me off most chorizos?

I am eating a bagel wot I made myself for desk lunch. It has honey roast turkey, sun blushed tomatoes, red jalapenos and cream cheese in it.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I am making [read eating as i go] ryvita crackers with cheese & red onion. mmm yummy, but all gone. *cries*

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:07 (nineteen years ago) link

mark, if you cook chorizo a lot less than you would think (ie only a few golden/black bits) then it's way more tender. Assuming you're using the softer cooking chorizo that is. If yr using the hard stuff then you'll always get the hard bits even in the best.

try and get to Brindisa for their own brand, it's blooming marvellous.

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:29 (nineteen years ago) link

kashi go lean tastes like styrofoam.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:36 (nineteen years ago) link

a slice of two boots "big maybelle" and a black & white cookie.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:28 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm going to have a few slices of heavy-duty organic 5-grain bread with olive tapenade and tomato slices for dinner, and a lot of blueberries because they're about to go bad and i feel guilty if i waste them.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Tonight will be lambchops with a side of steamed green beans, some of my special steak sauce, and some zinfandel. I may have to invite someone over - or maybe not and just enjoy 2 chops myself!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (nineteen years ago) link

last week i had cinnamon-raisin buttermilk pancakes with blueberries. YUM.

Maneating Leopards of India (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:47 (nineteen years ago) link

i love pancakes, but i haven't had any in ages. i was rarely allowed them as a kid because of all the sugar in the syrup and the relative lack of nutritional value, and i think i still have a mental block.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:50 (nineteen years ago) link

I cannot stop eating these new twisty cheez-its. THEY ARE SO GOOD THEY SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:52 (nineteen years ago) link

seven years pass...

srsly amazing Chinese BBQ sauce (making this ahead of time for some lamb meatballs) (i used a nice mango honey from whole foods and it really makes a difference):

1 cup dry sherry
1 cup hoisin sauce
1 cup ketchup
4 tbsp. minced peeled fresh ginger
4 tbsp. rice vinegar
2 tbsp. honey
2 tsp. sriracha or hot chili sauce
1/2 tsp. five-spice powder
2 garlic cloves, minced

Preparation:
Combine all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat; bring to a simmer. Cook mixture 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
