have fun at babbo, btw. based on my one meal there, it definitely lived up to hype.

$17 hamburger isnt all that expensive for an 'upscale' restaurant.

also i guarantee you its better than the one you had at the hard rock cafe.

Uncle Shavedlongcock (max), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:27 (fifteen years ago) link

$17 hamburger is £10 burger and we have plentee of those in London.

Oh L, that is teh suck. There is also the added p4rkins0n's problem - who knows how long before he has to stay out of the kitchen? Mind you, I have never ever ever actually paid to eat at St John because of artworld afterdinners; it is my little hunch that he might be over there and cheffing up for one BUT FOR WHICH ARTIST OR GALLERY? Find out, and dinner is served.

Bristol Meth (suzy), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:31 (fifteen years ago) link

haha, i would love to spend my afternoon stalking fergus! not in the cards, though, unfortunately. this is the menu for tonight:

http://www.momofuku.com/noodle/fergus.asp

most of these dishes are "small plates," so you can see how the check could easily inflate to ginormous.

lauren, Monday, 3 November 2008 18:36 (fifteen years ago) link

tapas formula:

create menu
+ make every portion 1/3 the size, keep price the same
+ dim lights
= profit!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 3 November 2008 18:40 (fifteen years ago) link

this is the same place that charges $8 for a plate of bread and "artisanal" butters, so go figure. i love the food at the ssam bar, but at this point i think that d.chang sits around cackling while playing in ballpit filled with money.

lauren, Monday, 3 November 2008 18:42 (fifteen years ago) link

duck fat fried potaters sound yumm yum

ian, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Avoid Bobo. Bruni's review last week in the NYT was pretty spot on. At least it wasn't frighteningly expensive. Among the most disappointing tasting menus I've had. At least the wine pairings were pretty great.

Oh, and I finally ate at Shake Shack. Them burgers are good but I thought the mushroom burgers were basically fried cheese balls.

Dandy Don Weiner, Sunday, 9 November 2008 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

oh god I want to eat here so badly

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i just went into a trance staring it

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

kind of dreading the prices, though.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

fried poached egg sandwich + chorizo challah + pistachio soft serve = perfect brunch?

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

gabbneb, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

z z. st. z z. uv (Lamp), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

z z. st. z z. uv (Lamp), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

dudes i finally tried no. 7! and loved it!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

one of my friends has been raving about bar boulud. her mother comes into town fairly often, and that's been their go-to spot. it's a bit pricey for me at the moment, though i'd love to try it.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i want a job where i get paid to eat at these places because its going to be very difficult to keep eating at nice restaurants when im not living with parents and have to pay rent

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

I haven't been to bar boulud. based on limited experience, i'm not a big fan of his. I might try it for lunch at some point, tho.

gabbneb, Friday, 14 November 2008 16:52 (fifteen years ago) link

ojeez prokandegg bun dasgmggggggggg

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Momofuku milk bar is dangerously close to my office, I'm worried about fried poached eggs becoming the foundation of my personal food pyramid.

saudade, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

same here. for me, it's the perfect stop-off on the way in.

lauren, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i just had a fried poached on my salad at no. 7 and it was decadent for sure

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

those eggs/that salad were my favorite part of the meal

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

sounds like my meal!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

the dan glickman from the hilarious motion picture association of america (max), Friday, 14 November 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

ack theater district, i hate you. not a lot of time to meet someone for quick dinner before play tonight. i have thought of uncle nick's ouzaria or empanada mama, but i dunno... a place closer to theater that is not $$$ would be good...

;n_n; (tehresa), Friday, 14 November 2008 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

I just had a mediocre lunch because all I could think of was Milk Bar. What's wrong with me?

xpost - 10 Downing looks promising but...yeah, it fucking looks promising.

Dandy Don Weiner, Friday, 14 November 2008 18:39 (fifteen years ago) link

ok as long as we're talking about what i ordered at 7: we split the broccoli tempura and the tuna to start (YUM), and i had that egg/ham plate, with the green salad + goat cheese crouton thing as my entrees

MM!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:03 (fifteen years ago) link

put points on your face (ice cr?m), Friday, 14 November 2008 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i was surprised at how spacious it was!

Surmounter, Friday, 14 November 2008 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Salt has become a cliched ingredient in hipster desserts these days

you're too hip baby

m coleman, Saturday, 15 November 2008 12:15 (fifteen years ago) link

some people don't like it, you know

gabbneb, Saturday, 15 November 2008 12:38 (fifteen years ago) link

textbook one-upsmanship: "you think salty desserts are hip? total cliche dude."
