$17 hamburger isnt all that expensive for an 'upscale' restaurant.

also i guarantee you its better than the one you had at the hard rock cafe.

Mind you, I have never ever ever actually paid to eat at St John because of artworld afterdinners; it is my little hunch that he might be over there and cheffing up for one BUT FOR WHICH ARTIST OR GALLERY? most of these dishes are "small plates," so you can see how the check could easily inflate to ginormous.

tapas formula:

create menu
+ make every portion 1/3 the size, keep price the same
+ dim lights
= profit!

this is the same place that charges $8 for a plate of bread and "artisanal" butters, so go figure. i love the food at the ssam bar, but at this point i think that d.chang sits around cackling while playing in ballpit filled with money.

Avoid Bobo. Bruni's review last week in the NYT was pretty spot on. At least it wasn't frighteningly expensive. Among the most disappointing tasting menus I've had. At least the wine pairings were pretty great.

Oh, and I finally ate at Shake Shack. Them burgers are good but I thought the mushroom burgers were basically fried cheese balls.

dudes i finally tried no. 7! and loved it!

one of my friends has been raving about bar boulud. her mother comes into town fairly often, and that's been their go-to spot. it's a bit pricey for me at the moment, though i'd love to try it.

i want a job where i get paid to eat at these places because its going to be very difficult to keep eating at nice restaurants when im not living with parents and have to pay rent

I haven't been to bar boulud. based on limited experience, i'm not a big fan of his. I might try it for lunch at some point, tho.

Momofuku milk bar is dangerously close to my office, I'm worried about fried poached eggs becoming the foundation of my personal food pyramid.

same here. for me, it's the perfect stop-off on the way in.

i just had a fried poached on my salad at no. 7 and it was decadent for sure

those eggs/that salad were my favorite part of the meal

ok as long as we're talking about what i ordered at 7: we split the broccoli tempura and the tuna to start (YUM), and i had that egg/ham plate, with the green salad + goat cheese crouton thing as my entrees
