butchered close behind

odd that's probably my order too. Just love the crunchiness of Tomb and the frequent breakdowns. Not to mention the awesome cartoonish cover art.
from the Fisher era, my choice would be between Evisceration Plague, Kill, or Gallery of Suicide, but these don't hold a candle to the Barnes era (though that has little to do with Barnes himself IMO).

I'm going with The Bleeding. "Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead", "Fucked with a Knife", "Stripped, Raped and Strangled"...it doesn't get any better than that. Vile, Kill, and Evisceration Plague are not far behind.
Actually, I greatly prefer Corpsegrinder to Barnes.
― A. Begrand, Sunday, 25 April 2010 20:27 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm def. not a Barnes worshipper, I just prefer that era because of the songwriting....
― Bogart Puff 'n Stuff (Cattle Grind), Sunday, 25 April 2010 20:27 (thirteen years ago) link
not really down w/ the cover art and lyrical themes in general, too much boneheaded misogyny
― am0n, Sunday, 25 April 2010 20:31 (thirteen years ago) link
yea there's that but some of their lyrics are unwittingly funny. "Shredded Humans" ftw.

well that's not "unwittingly" but whateveer
I saw them the other night and they were so fuckin awesome btw.

Agreed - I was sore the next day mostly from self-inflicted headbang injuries. I wouldn't mosh much due to my modest frame but when Hammer Smashed Face started, standing and head banging wouldn't do, so I hit the pit and got mangled like a rag doll and a nice cracked toenail but it was worth it.

Butchered. Tomb's really good, too. Don't care much after that, tbh.

I like that it took two years for that reply...
As for the poll: Only 12 votes? I guess "hates Cannibal Corpse" is the winner here.

got some free tickets for a Cannibal Corpse show this week. I know nothing about them except the dude in 8th grade who used to wear one of their shirts and who wrote into Guitar World magazine railing that they needed to stop wasting their time on fake shit like Metallica and Slayer and start focusing on real shit like Cannibal Corpse. What do I need to know? Am I gonna enjoy this?

Their entire catalog is on Spotify and they have many, many videos on YouTube.

Cannibal Corpse can be a blast even if you don't know em well going in. knowing em well just enhances it (ie when you hear "Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead" and immediately trample the guy in front of you in excitement)
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 16 February 2015 23:01 (nine years ago) link
they are a total blast live and hang out at the merch table before AND after the set for pics. get in the pit and have fun

in tampa they go nuts for these guys and it was a more compact venue so I got headbutted in the pit and this big burly guy saw me going down and picked me up out of harm's way, then as he saw me confusedly trying to go back he put his arm out to stop me
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 16 February 2015 23:10 (nine years ago) link
i love him
giant lol for that guy, hero status

I wish they'd stop ending with "Stripped Raped and Strangled" as a 'surprise' encore after HSF. "Hammer Smashed Face" is the set-ender, period. coming back with that one is akin to ending the Godfather by having Connie stick her foot in the door before it can close on Michael, saying she forgot her coat
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 16 February 2015 23:20 (nine years ago) link
perfectly good song, but it should be out of the way by song #10 if it's gonna happen at all
The Centuries of Torment documentary on the band is amazing and infinitely rewatchable. It's on YT. And it's long. If you want to go into your first live exposure to the band with an eagerness to see professionals on top of their game, I suggest watching it.
And for the dead poll I have to go with Bloodthirst. I get the historical significance of those first three albums but vastly prefer every other dm band of the time to CC; and Bloodthirst has a feeling of "everything coming together"-ness that I've not heard on any of their other albums.
One thing I will say about those early Barnes albums, they reek of sordid unpleasantness in the same way as the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. (I mean this as a positive.) The Corpsegrinder era is like the Scream movies in contrast.

I think my fav CC is still Tomb of the Mutilated but I feel like yr still otm as CC's Barnes releases were bested by a lot of other DM bands (though I still love them), and I find The Bleeding good but overrated. for me tho the 'coming together' album for Corpsegrinder = Kill
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 17 February 2015 03:30 (nine years ago) link
soft spot in my heart for Gallery of Suicide too as it was my first, and I remember it being my second death metal album ever. bought on cassette for 7.99 from Camelot Music, had to wait for my shift at Steak 'n Shake to end before I got to go home and finally listen to it.

speaking of Bloodthirst though, god does "Dead Human Collection" hit hard live.
seeing them next week, more excited for Behemoth who I haven't seen, but who am I kidding, CC set will be amazing as always.

each one came with a poster so my room looks like Corpsey right now, except for the huge Gwar poster.
