is it the profanity, or the jinxing?

After a weird bounce yesterday into the 6% range on 538 yesterday, we're now back to this:

The jinxing, but moreso the arrogance.

I heart arrogance

Chicago does not equal Midland, Texas. At the very least it should be "home of the next President..."

I heart accuracy

I really hope you take his possible future status as "the FUCKING president" well....

Jesse, kick Biden in the balls for me.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 3 November 2008 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I think he passed a Violence Against Biden Act that prevents me from kicking him at all.

I just conducted a poll that indicates that today is not very productive for Chicago workers due to 3l3ct|0n-related nerves.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:25 (fifteen years ago) link

nerves about WHAT? between McCain's utter stupidity and the schoolgirl fantasy crushes on O, it's in the bag.

big louie moilolnen (dan m), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I just want this to be over. I want you-know-who to win and McCain back in the desert and Palin off preparing for her next steps.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I have nerves that McCain will be president. I can't bear any more pain!

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Mostly I fear the same folks who stomped their feet in Florida will stomp their feet in this election and try to sabotage or invalidate it.

Eazy, Monday, 3 November 2008 18:51 (fifteen years ago) link

That too.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I feel like it's Christmas Eve, but that when I unwrap my present, it might be filled with killer bees.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

If Those GOPeople try to steal an election that's not close, riots would be an excellent idea. (Should've been done in 2000.)

Dr Morbius, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:04 (fifteen years ago) link

well said xp

Jordan, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I have faith in the Obama "ground game." These guys know how elections are stolen, and they're all over that shit.

Eazy, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:19 (fifteen years ago) link

So pissed. I had a meeting with a large Wisconsin contractor that our company has worked with for over twenty years. I cringed when I pulled in to their lot and saw the huge McCain/Palin sign in the front of their building. Anyway, while I was in their office for a 45 minute meeting, one of their employees stole our Obama magnet. It was a private lot with controlled access and since the conference room we were sitting in faced the lobby, I could see that no one else came in the building while were in there.

omfg

I hope a complaint was lodged?

big louie moilolnen (dan m), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Thats the problem. The owner of the company is best golfing buddies with my boss. As in, they take twice yearly week-long golfing vacations together. So if I do complain, it will cause major problems for me here. Plus, my boss is also a huge Republican, so he's not likely to really back me up too much.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:39 (fifteen years ago) link

wow

La Lechera, Monday, 3 November 2008 19:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe it was a gag. Like, the employee who stole your magnet has been doing that all year long and like tomorrow, the owner of the company is going to come out to his car and find it covered under 200 Obama magnets.

☑ (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:43 (fifteen years ago) link

hm seems like theft by company employees would be cause for concern but whatevs, you know the situation better than I.

big louie moilolnen (dan m), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

just let it go ... you lost a magnet, they're going to lose an election

metametadata (n/a), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

If it was me: fuck bosses, fuck golfing buddies, I want my shit back or at least 5 minutes with the fucker who took it.

big louie moilolnen (dan m), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I agree with you dan, unfortunately the relationship (both professionally and personally) they have with our firm puts me in a really hard place to be very vocal about it. Obvs its just a silly magnet, but the principle of the thing kind of pisses me off.

Dan, which bus do you take to work? I just drove down MI Ave and couldn't see crap.

another regrettable cheesesteak (Jesse), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I take either the 2, 6, or X28. The reason you didn't see crap is because none of the stuff is on Michigan, it's all on Columbus.

big louie moilolnen (dan m), Monday, 3 November 2008 19:55 (fifteen years ago) link

Or at least it was this morning.

tender esl story, coming right up:

last summer i had a student named mohammed who was from iraq. he was an engineer in iraq, but was looking for a job - any job- here in chicago. he was in my class for like 2 weeks, maybe three. during that time, he requested that i help him get a dictionary like the ones we use in class. i said sure. other people said they wanted the dictionaries too, so i ordered a bunch of used ones from various sellers via abeb00ks. the second or third week of class he told me that he got a job at a hotel as "hotelman" and that his schedule would prevent him from attending class and he was very sorry. for weeks these dictionaries poured into my mailbox; it was really irritating and they were really heavy to carry to work.
the guy disappeared and never got his dictionary and i never saw him again.

until today, when i was walking home from the train and i saw him. he was just standing there on the corner talking to a friend in front of the indian/pakistani restaurant. i turned around and made sure it was him. it was. it just so happens that i had ONE dictionary left from the several dozen that i ordered. no one bought that one. so i ran upstairs (across the street) and he waited for me and he finally got his dictionary.

the end.
