piping hot dish and a cup of chat (Stevie D), Saturday, 24 April 2010 13:27 (thirteen years ago) link

This song is pretty great.

o. nate, Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah I love this. I also like ATR and XTRMNTR and Suicide though.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i have that santigold disc those MIA discs. never really registered for me. love MIA Santigold, tho, for the beats, hooks and lyrics.

See, this is my experience.

Intense. but I liked it

van smack, Monday, 26 April 2010 13:32 (thirteen years ago) link

the kind of video senser would have made if they'd had the budget

tbh the music is about on senser's level too

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 13:36 (thirteen years ago) link

ah that video just makes that suicide sample even more intense.

borntohula, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:12 (thirteen years ago) link

not feeling the video - there's no reason for it to be 9 minutes long ans for all the viscera there's a pointlessness to the entire concept

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

expected her to not do something thats so familiar but the songs ok. bit too chemical bros/prodigy ish though. i expect better from her.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:34 (thirteen years ago) link

good video though. and her conceptualism is still there. wonder what the sound of the album will be like.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:34 (thirteen years ago) link

sort of reminds of the 'windowlicker' vid with the distended length and american setting albeit with the avant-grotesquerie replaced by inane blackly comic quasipolitical challops

nakhchivan, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:35 (thirteen years ago) link

"this video contains content from UMG. it is no longer available in your country."

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 26 April 2010 14:38 (thirteen years ago) link

what's the title of the song?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 26 April 2010 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

"her conceptualism is still there"

what

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

there ought always to be room in pop music for syncretists/dilettantes with a sense for the right wtf direction, even if u hate it u gotta have respect for her

malcolm mclaren would have wanted it this way

nakhchivan, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:50 (thirteen years ago) link

what a horribly formed song

cozen, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:54 (thirteen years ago) link

"what"

i guess youd prefer someone like i dunno, brother ali where everything is 100% accurate/theoretically sound but 100% boring

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:55 (thirteen years ago) link

no i just mean... what do you mean by "conceptualism" here?

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link

hey it's another mia song that would be interesting except for mia's vocals

not sure if anyone follow pitchfork on twitter, but she's tweeting there all day and it's possibly the most annoying thing she's ever done. not really sure what she's trying to accomplish by being so kayne/all-caps/obnoxious, when i've seen and heard interviews where she's a very normal, laid back kind of person.

borntohula, Monday, 26 April 2010 17:08 (thirteen years ago) link

ann powers on twitter: "The #MIA vid works as a repositioning tool. Reaffirmng that old skool revolution is her biz even if bright colors and indie cred distract."

pretty sure "biz" isn't used ironically

LITERALLY FLATTEN HER WITH THE POWER OF YOUR MARRIAGE (HI DERE), Monday, 26 April 2010 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Listening to it again in hi quality and I'm still frustrated at how great the sample is and how it gets ruined by unnecessary echo on the vocals and the lazy production. Her voice sounds way better when it's slightly behind the sound, not in front of it all. Song sounds killer until she torches it down with the vocals... oh well, we'll always have ghostrider...

imma sb (samosa gibreel), Monday, 26 April 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't mind this song, but I hope it isn't representative of what LP3 has in store generally. She seems too good and too canny to drop some kind of disappointing album on us in 2010.

re: that tracklisting, I can totally see her sampling Tequila by Terrorvision and turning it into some sort of uberhip dancefloor filling 2010 equivalent of Paper Planes; except where that was basically just a good sample with some tired sounding samples and annoying vocals, this will be http://991.com/newgallery/Terrorvision-Autographed-Publi-326554.jpg + tired sounding samples and annoying vocals.
