anyone seen these dudes live? I'm thinking about checking them out tomorrow night & considering whether or not it is worth the 30 mile drive. I love the album btw, but I have reservations about blindly sacrificing the time/money to see bands who I suspect might be "performing" w/ laptops or something. Nothing wrong w/ that sort of thing, but my feeling on the matter is that that sort of thing will prob just be enjoyed more at home on my headphones anyway.

oh man, i was going to revive this recently

love Hospice so much. haven't seen 'em live, but there's a lot of footage out there online of the band playing live, and a lot of it is really good. check YouTube or whatever.

thanks ksh. that clip sounds pretty good, tho I think they would be well-served w/ some more BASS - would make the washy climaxes a lot more powerful. Digging the drummer's style too.

anyway, i'm a total stan for this record. think they're coming by my area too soon, but not sure. i should probably go

WOW. I very rarely like, much less LOVE, music on a first listen, but this album was like a kick in the chest. I like a good cry, but music never makes me cry, except songs on this album, especially Epilogue. (Also, I don't talk much about music and never post on ILM, so that's another unusual effect of this album.)

dude's perma-vibrato meant that i was only able to stomach that hospice album about twice through when it came out. with all due respect to its serious theme and subject matter, it also struck me as a little too genteel and linear for its own good.

I don't have much of substance to say, but for the last year about 50% of the music I've listened to has been from Hospice and Burst Apart.

I saw them live in Chicago in April, which was great, though I wish I'd had less to drink. Before the show I was outside with a friend while he smoked and we saw the stage door open, so we peeked in. Peter S1lberman came out of a van to guard the door. I said hello, and b/c I'm really bad with faces, I said "Are you...." and he said "I'm security," which was ridiculous! My friend asked if he would share the joint he had tucked behind his ear, but he declined. He was nice. We talked about the weather and the drive from St. Louis. My crush on him was affirmed and intensified. He was clean shaven, which was nice as a change.

lol @ "i'm security"

i haven't been listening to hospice and haven't gotten around to hearing all of burst apart yet

markers, Saturday, 3 September 2011 19:44 (twelve years ago) link

Took me some time to warm up to Burst Apart after the mind blowing Hospice. And I still prefer the latter for being completely unfuckwithable, but Burst Apart is a pretty darn strong album yo.

Cool beans experience Je55e :)

Yeh, I was really glad to get to chat with him! And I was especially happy that my friend who didn't know the band as well as I do was there to help make decent conversation. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have said "I'm your biggest fan," but I had a couple drinks in me, and I adore him and the band, so you never know.

"I'm security" was weird b/c he wasn't joking! I mean, I'm here to see your band play, dude, so there is a pretty good chance I've seen your mug in promo pix or on Youtube.

guitars, horns

markers, Monday, 31 March 2014 19:07 (ten years ago) link

Sounds pretty good on first listen. I wouldn't call the production "glossy", maybe just "bigger"? I really liked their most recent Undersea ep so am psyched to hear all of this new one.

Sounds pretty good to me. Loved the woozy vibe of Undersea, and this isn't too far off.

Album is kicking around - very much the sound of that single, for 53 minutes. (A good thing, if you ask me, but I think it's gonna wear most people out.)

Just picked it up at the weekend. When we saw them live at ATP a couple of years ago I was vaguely worried they were gonna go down an early-Verve, wibbly reverb dream hole and forget to take any tunes with them. They kind of have, except that they've done it really well; instead of nothing but twisty/repetitive guitar lines, they've deployed brass really cleverly. It's a really lovely record to doze to on a Sunday afternoon when you're exhausted. And I mean that absolutely as a compliment. Looking forward to unraveling it a bit more. But not too much.
