dirt bag lifestyle:
-no washing pants
-one hoodie, every day, all winter/fall
-floor of room littered with weed ash, stems, dirty socks, superhero comics

once i opened a drawer in the kitchen that i hadn't opened for months, and there was a bag of potatoes in there, and they were liquid, and a cloud of flying insects from another fucking planet flew out of there. also in that kitchen, the stovetop was covered in a BLANKET of dead gnats. i mean a blanket. not 10 gnats, not 50 gnats. i don't know why i am saying this like i should be boasting. it is horrifying.

killy (baby lenin pin), Saturday, 23 September 2006 01:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Not washed car, uh, ever. Not washing your jeans for a year is fairly regular behavior amongst raw denim snobs, Vahid!

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Saturday, 23 September 2006 01:44 (seventeen years ago) link

after living with a really dirty person once (same pile of laundry was in the same place when i moved in and out (and when i went back to visit 3 months after moving out), dog hair tumbleweeds all over the place, 3 cats confined to basement covered it with shit and piss which was never cleaned, other half of basement suffered from sump pump floods which were never cleaned up after, etc.) i can't really let my place get too dirty. i'm not a clean freak, but i'm getting to the stage where i even notice when i should be dusting, mopping the bedroom floor, etc, though sometimes i don't see the point because as soon as i sweep the floor, it's dusty again.

when i had a car, though, i never washed it because 7-8 months of the year, it was covered in snow and salt so there was no point. in the summer, i let the occasional rain shower take care of it.

sometimes i leave food in the fridge for months at a time and find it later and get really grossed out. i've lost a lot of dishes that way.

sometimes i don't see the point because as soon as i sweep the floor, it's dusty again.

Amish sweep their floors every day. I try to keep to once every two days, though I think I'm at like 3-4 right now (was hoping I would get to it today but didnot).

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Saturday, 23 September 2006 02:11 (seventeen years ago) link

i used to sweep kitchen floor a ton but since i don't cook much these days, it's not as immediately necessary (or maybe it is and i really am a dirtbag!). the floor that bothers me most is the bedroom, though. hardwood + i have a few rugs, but the fuzz from jon's rug travels in as well as random dust and i feel like it's ALWAYS in need of a sweeping. i'm not amish so i don't really like to clean that frequently. maybe i should get one really large rug so i don't notice as much?

winter of '00 i was living in a 250 sq ft space that was mostly bathroom and kitchen, while dating a girl who had a nebulous 'adult entertainment' job at a gentleman's club (later leading into adult films shortly after we broke it off) that amounted to her watching guys jerk off in front of her in plush rooms. she'd come over a couple nights a week and we'd both eat mcdonald's and watch shitty movies. i didn't wash my clothes because there was no laundry on the premises and no laundromat within walking distance and my previous car was fucked up and i didn't like to drive it. my neighbor, i found out later, thought i was a white supremacist because i never left my apartment and i had a shaved head. the album i played the most those few months was probably wu-tang's '36 chambers' so i'm not sure how that played into the equation, maybe it was my sort-of gf rolling up in her shitty truck blasting david allen coe's more "underground recordings"?

things are better now : D

I like yr attitude, Vahid! How are the LVCs btw? I was thinking about a pair, but the Japanese seem to be kicking everyone's ass on the denim front these days.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Saturday, 23 September 2006 06:17 (seventeen years ago) link

they are gorgeous. the denim is just ... insane. so much texture, such a gorgeous indigo.

thing is they are shrink-to-fit, but i bought them fairly tight because all of my other raw jeans have stretched about two or three inches. i wonder if i should have bought them too big and done a cold soak to shrink them ... i don't know, i guess i just chickened out on the idea of buying these huge jeans and spending all that time crouched in the bathtub waiting for them to dry on my legs and shrink to the perfect fit.

problem is, if these DON'T stretch, i am going to be the owner of some tight-ass jeans.

what would be ideal is if they stretched a bit, but not too much. then i'll just wear them unwashed FOREVER.

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Saturday, 23 September 2006 06:23 (seventeen years ago) link

the LVCs seemed like a good alternative to japanese jeans, they are priced about a bill cheaper. i can justify paying $150 for a good super-classic pair of jeans that i can wear for a few years straight but when i catch myself looking at any item of clothing that costs $200 and over and isn't a suit i start to wonder at my priorities in life.

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Saturday, 23 September 2006 06:26 (seventeen years ago) link

and if it will wreck my dirtbag image

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Saturday, 23 September 2006 06:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd bet the LVCs should stretch out fine, but if not, can always soak the waist and stretch them some yourself. There are some nice brands of Japanese jeans for around $200ish a pair, but I know what you mean about the price..I justified the cost of my Eternals and Samurais by the fact they should last quite a long time.

Despite the cost, the way these are worn is in keeping with the dirtbag thing, I say. If they were some sort of designer predistressed denim, I would turn in my dirtbag card though!

I tore the crotch of my corduroys when I was at work a few weeks ago, so I went to the bathroom with a roll of duct tape, turned my pants inside out, and taped them back together. luckily my shift ended an hour later and I don't think anybody noticed.

on another occasion I forgot to wear my belt to work, so I looped a ziptie between two adjacent belt loops to keep my pants from falling down. I cut off and replaced the ziptie every time I went to the bathroom.
