(also stupid US releases are totally annoying, "problem child" sounds completely outta place on ltbr and "crabsody in blue" is a good jam)

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 03:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Powerage has Riff Raff on it. How can you not love it?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 April 2007 04:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Also: "Sin City" and "Gone shootin'." At which point I think we've covered the entire album.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 20 April 2007 04:13 (sixteen years ago) link

One of the best rock bands of all time, no question.

No Question?

Bee OK, Friday, 20 April 2007 04:34 (sixteen years ago) link

i mean if you're wrong or something, maybe

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 04:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Ugh, I'd managed to forget "Fly On The Wall". THX ILX!

Otherwise, a lot harder than you'd think. "Dirty Deeds" it is.

John Justen, Friday, 20 April 2007 06:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Having to choose between "Back In Black" and "Highway To Hell", I voted for "Back In Black" because of the title track, "Hells Bells" and "You Shook Me All Night Long".

Everything they've done since the mid 80s is boring.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 20 April 2007 12:51 (sixteen years ago) link

High Voltage.

(And it's kind of sad how many people are mentioning Back in Black.)

xhuxk, Friday, 20 April 2007 12:55 (sixteen years ago) link

HI DERE!

The Amazing Randy, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:09 (sixteen years ago) link

High Voltage, easily. It's gonna be a straight up tragedy when Back in Black wins.

scarymuppet, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll even take Powerage over High Voltage, tracks 7 & 8 are probably my least favorite on either, but Powerage's are zippier. And tracks 1-6 and 9 on both are awesome.

da croupier, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, Powerage's consistent theme ("how DARE you even THINK of dumping Bon Scott?!?!") is pretty unique in the AC/DC ouvre.

da croupier, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Powerage for me.

Hey croupier, listen to "Shot down in Flames" on HTH.

Bill Magill, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I have all the Bon stuff, actually! And I'm not saying there are NO songs about getting dumped on any other album.

da croupier, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I am so happy to see all the love for "Powerage". I think it's the bands high water mark and a record where they (barely) move away from their song formula.

"Riff Raff" was the air guitar song of my youth.

kwhitehead, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:40 (sixteen years ago) link

LET THERE BE ROCK all the way

Stormy Davis, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not a big Ballbreaker fan ... I wanted that album to be so good, was so psyched that they were working with Rick but...

Saw them on that tour though and they were great as usual.

Stormy Davis, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:49 (sixteen years ago) link

High Voltage

darin, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Powerage for me. Although it was hard to choose it over Let There Be Rock.

JN$OT, Friday, 20 April 2007 16:55 (sixteen years ago) link

High Voltage may be in the running. It is the one studio album I listen to most.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 20 April 2007 18:06 (sixteen years ago) link

1.Let There Be Rock for me.
2.Brian Johnson was no Bon Scott, but come on, he had his own kinda "flow" early on. That initial monochromatic trio of LPs was pretty solid. And "Flick Of The switch" is still overlooked (and great).
3.I wish I was familiar with the original LPs configurations for comparison purposes. Pretzel is 100% right to feel resentful that the USA releases are now the "official" ones. (Even tho the original Australian cover-art is, to my eyes, even uglier, no mean feat.)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

i dunno, i like the aussie LTBR:

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s82191.jpg

the rest of them are a hell of a lot uglier tho, i agree

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link

One of the best rock bands of all time, no question.

No Question?

That is, of course, a purely objective assessment.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 20 April 2007 20:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry pretzel, but I went with the US releases because, quite simply, those are the ones that most people on ILM have.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 20 April 2007 20:13 (sixteen years ago) link

bump

JN$OT, Thursday, 26 April 2007 08:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Is there any particular reason why you're bumping all these threads?

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 26 April 2007 08:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Why not? A chance for people to get some last minute votes in? Or to actually see the results maybe?

lovely

JN$OT, Thursday, 26 April 2007 08:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Gonna say "Back in Black" followed by "Highway to Hell".

novaheat, Thursday, 26 April 2007 09:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Last chance to vote!

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

No taste tied with Back in Black! But hey, it didn't win. Happy, Chuck?

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I expected more AC/DC fans to be on ILM.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:35 (sixteen years ago) link

People who don't like AC/DC might be saddest sacks on Earth.

darin, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Seriously, they must live lives devoid of joy and wonder.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Lots of people on ILM just don't like any rock music. It happens.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:13 (sixteen years ago) link

It's no big deal someo people not liking stuff. It's just strange that they would actually bother to vote that they don't like them. But people do so that's why I like to give that option (except for my Hüsker Dü poll)

You know, looking at the tracklist again, I realized that they didn't include the cover of "School Days" from the Australian LP T.N.T. So, even after this set they STILL haven't made all of the exclusive Australian tracks available to the U.S. market...

Plunge Protection Team, Friday, 23 October 2009 22:07 (fourteen years ago) link

You can download that track directly from Walmart.com.

I agree with this statement.
"RIFF RAFF"!!!!

chad, Saturday, 24 October 2009 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

one year passes...

Dirty Deeds and Back in Black

the second verse to BiB almost comes across like rap lyrically, given the braggadocio...

my downeaster ilxor (Neanderthal), Friday, 10 June 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

They had better songs on other records, but Powerage is pretty much AC/DC at their most raw powerful self. I'd almost say that album has the best sounding hard rock guitar ever recorded. It just f-ing roars.

earlnash, Friday, 10 June 2011 02:31 (twelve years ago) link

finally got Backtracks. omg "Love Song" is amazing and cements why Bon was the best -- so weird to haer that side of him, he sang that so emotively!

Nebuchadnezzar Buchanan (Neanderthal), Thursday, 16 June 2011 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

I changed my mind. Powerage is best.

been spinning “powerage” a whole lot, thanks for the revive brad, will report back w my thoughts eventually

what does pip mean

budo jeru, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 05:43 (four years ago) link

My father's family name being Pirrip, and my Satanic name Philip, my infant tongue could rock of both names nothing heavier or more illicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip.
