I reckon there's 26 girls mentioned in 52 Girls. There's two different girls named Kate and Jack (or Jan?) is different from Jackie-O. So if you sing it twice there's 52 in total.

I was listening to time capsule and wondered about this. it seems that they would demonstrate all the mentioned songs when it was performed live.

I've watched that 1983 performance numerous times (they were on fire then) but had somehow never seen 1990. For a band that might be perceived as repeating the same schtick for decades, the differences in arrangement are really interesting. Not to mention the ad-libbed dance crazes. Do the game show contestant!
