If I love "the Valleys" by Electrelane what else would I love?

your original description sounds like it was written about popol vuh. esp. agnus dei.

It reminds me of "Age of Aquarius" by Fifth Dimension.

Ah, lovely lovely Fifth Dimension.. I do love them as well as The Valleys, so good call. But not the Aquarius song, which is just plain horrid. I think Wedding Bell Blues is my favourite. I also like the fact that they have a song called Too Poor To Die - although it's also too poor to play.

Anyway, enough of them, because we were talking about Electrelane - or rather, we were trying not to, because The Valleys makes me much more inclined to buy a Chicago A Capella album than another one by them.

Some interesting suggestions here - thanks. Will report back. iLiKETRAiNS first, I think. Then Gy├Ârgy Ligeti.

There's really nothing else quite like it, and nothing else this band ever released matches it. Or almost any other band, really.

agree completely. they're a great band, and it's a great record overall, by far their best, but that song is just...THAT SONG. once in a lifetime thing.

Everytime I listen to Electrelane, I really question why I need to listen to anything else. ever.

especially this song.

yeah but this song is an anomaly. i love it to bits and i love electrelane, but for different reasons.

This is the closest thing I can think of as an equivalent http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/releases/?id=16415

this song is amazing, but the recording seems to clip at the end and that always drives me crazy

It's strange to me too. But we're talking about praxis, man. (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 16 February 2015 21:46 (three years ago) Permalink

three weeks pass...

so I found The Power Out for $6 in the "New Rock Sale Vinyl" bin at Salzer's. It made my weekend. I love this song so much. The rest of the album is great too.

Somehow wish Electrelane had done an album that was pretty much variations on this song.

"Take My Wife" by Seekonk builds to a "The Valleys"-esque crescendo.
