As a former schoolboy clarinet player who hated his instrument and the crummy sound it made whenever he blew into it (no embouchure, darlings), the lack of groovy aspirational Clarinet Pop was a matter of some distress. (If I had a pound for every well-meaning grown-up who said "Ah, but what about Acker Bilk", etc etc)

Anyway, the first half of the original 12" extended version of Soft Cell's "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" is basically one long clarinet solo, and it's actually not that bad at all.
