2 Unlimited: C or D?

Yeah I see what you mean - I thought they did it well, though "The Workaholic" and "Get Ready For This" are both more pumping-good than "No Limits". Not as good as Utah Saints first two or three hits I'll grant you.

As for my opinion, 2 Unlimited were not that bad, they were the prototypical europop group, but there were many better acts that came later. Like Culture Beat, Cappella or Leila K.

Judging from the amount of europop threads we have right now, I think some sort of revival might be around the corner... The Snap! remixes are quite popular right now, and Haddaway's "What Is Love" was a minor radio hit (again) a couple of years ago, at least in Finland. Also, some Finnish entrepreneur has already started an monthly europop revival club. I bet were going to see an "ironic" europop retro-act emerging in a short time.

Utah Saints had good taste in samples (Kate Bush, Human League, the other song that makes up 'Believe In Me') - 'No Limits' is just not very smart (or fun, for me)

i guess i was very fickle about my europop/dance. i liked Rob n' Raz altho they were a good couple of years before 2 Unlimited (i could SMELL the Waterman influence i guess, thus utter contempt, altho i'm assuming he was merely in an 'excutive producer' role for them if anything).

we did get the 'TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO' tho, as 'hilariously' parodies by The Bluebells when they performed 'Young At Heart' on TOTP (they also referenced Shabba Ranks one week, fact fans)

At the time I remember a lot of hostility towards Utah Saints from proper music fans for their abuse of K Bush so their evil rockist scheme backfired, awesome single though.

Tuomas I think the record company foolishly decided that scando rap lacked the realness, then along came Dr Alban and they were persuaded otherwise.

"No One" and "Magic Friend" were the best of their output, I remember being very upset when both failed to hit the top 10.

I think I might remember an echo of 'Magic Friend' in this old mind of mine (I WAS THERE! I was there, playing the Prodigy, to the pop kids, in my dormitory at school (they didn't get it)).

Still are my fave band of all time, and up there alongside them are Ultrasonic, Dyewitness, Godsmack, Korn and Lacuna Coil... Even with my diverse taste in music they are still number one. Bring back Ray and Anita!

The 2 Unlimited comp I have (Unlimited Hits) unfortunately has all the raps left in. Of course, if the comp had only versions with the raps taken out, I think I would have been just as annoyed. Is there another 2 Unlimited comp with the same songs but the mainly vocalless versions?

Couldn't stand them when they were huge, and would complain loudly about them to anyone who'd listen. Years later, I can appreciate them as fun pop, and the production holds up nicely.

Why should the raps be left out? Euro-rapping was an essential part of Eurodance, and a big part of its charm.

Personally I preferred Martha Wash, as far as this sort of thing is concerned. But I had no problem with 2 Unlimited - they served their purpose. (Almost bought No Limits used back in '95 or so.) Omitting the raps was certainly a good idea.

Well, "Martha Wash" was just a concise way of referring to C+C Music Factory, Black Box and whoever else she sang for. All of 'em cranked out the Hi-NRG jams that, throughout the '90s, were as ubiquitous at North American sporting events as in dance clubs. I tend(ed) to lump 'em all together regardless of how much/little they actually had in common sonically.

First album i bought was 'No Limits', yes i am that cool, deal with it.

Get ready for this still sounds pretty good these days
