I can't listen to VU's White Light/White Heat album while driving. I get wayyyyy tooo antsy.

in the car i listen to anything i can sing along to. anything else tends to get irritating

Favourite driving-at-night-in-big-city music: instrumental Moroder-style electro/disco. Think Scarface soundtrack. Either originally 80s or Bunker/Murder Capital-style retro.

I listen way more in the car than I do at home - the most obvious car music is Kraftwerk, which just doesn't work for me at home.

[...]anyone who tells you they'd rather listen to Nurse with Wound than Blue Oyster Cult on a road trip is lying.

i'm glad someone said it. i gotta have a beat, don't care if it's hip-hop, metal, psychedelia, funk, whatever, i need something to keep me on the road following the lines.

If it's electronic in nature and I'm driving on the freeway at night, I consistently am close to dozing off. Supermodified even did that to me.

Dig Me Out is great driving music, notably "Turn it On."

Considering most of my music listening is done using headphones, a lot of 60s albums only available in mono all sound better in the car.

Krautrock on Faust 4 is great for aggresive motorway driving.

I don't know about driving, but when you're staggering home drunk with a kebab the best album to sing at the top of your lungs is What's the story morning glory; a few of us managed to get through the entire album, complete with guitar solos and cheesy drum intros.

I'll get me coat.

I'm with Roger on this one too. I love to listen to classic-rock radio on long car trips. Boston's "Don't Look Back" sounds just about right zipping through Richmond on 95 at 65. And once in a while, I get to hear something I would actually play at home: Zep, Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," etc.

lee g speaks the absolute gospel truth. i can't really imagine enjoying boston anywhere outside of my car, but "rock and roll band" you gotta crank. you just GOTTA.

three years pass...
i should know better than to read or post on ilm at this point, but can we talk about the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between listening to Radar Love in yr car vs. any other venue? whenever it comes on while i'm driving it sounds like the hugest most amazing song ever recorded and i am driven (so 2 speak lolol) into an air drumming frenzy. if i play it on my computer, it sounds like penis.
