Need to get rid of belly though, too much beer and food.

not_goodwin, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:25 (fourteen years ago) link

look at that blubber fly. muscle mass plays havoc with bmi accuracy.

i'm about 19 too, none of that pesky muscle to bother me. i'm sure i was perfectly healthy when i was around the 18 mark, though. but i guess that diet of chocolate and crisps w/ dip has done wonders for me.

Not sure how this happened, but I've lost about 20 lbs. within the last two years and am now "normal weight."

22.6 now.

Move over BMI, there's a new sheriff in town:

BMI or Body Mass Index, a ratio of weight to height, has long been considered one of the best measures for assessing overall health risk.Getting your BMI into a healthy range used to be considered a top health priority. However, recent research shows that there is a new
sheriff in town: your waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). Studies now indicate
that WHtR is a much better measure than BMI for assessing obesity and cardiovascular risk.

This is great because I go from "Overweight" on the BMI scale to "Extremely Slim" on the WHtR scale.

No longer am I penalized for being athletic.

still hovering around the 30.1 range on BMI, bang on 50 on WtHR, wouldn't mind a little improvement on both tbh but WIP

Thats the last time I weighed myself, I think I may be less heavy now but probably not much.

It's OK, anyway

Mark G, Thursday, 8 April 2021 09:00 (three years ago) link

24.5 = normal (just)

since xmas i now fast walk 4km a day (40 mins), and that has definitely helped me get back down to my usual 75kg as i had put on a couple of red wine enhanced kilos over lockdown.
but seems like the daily walk has helped me find the balance between enjoying wine and exercise.

BMI is such an inaccurate tool it can't be used for any purpose that requires real data.

Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Thursday, 8 April 2021 17:56 (three years ago) link

Reminds me of this:
A man in his 30s with no underlying health conditions was offered a Covid vaccine after an NHS error mistakenly listed him as just 6.2cm in height.

Liam Thorp was told he qualified for the jab because his measurements gave him a body mass index of 28,000.

25.8. Technically overweight. Can't escape my family legacy of thicc thighs.
