I wonder how long someone could listen to that at great volume before they went mad/deaf.

Trayce, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh that was the other thing I was going to say was that the one time I saw them live, there the loudest band I ever saw aside from Swans on the Children of God tour.

Bimble, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 05:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Good loud rather than "ow my freakin ears!" loud I trust! :)

Trayce, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 05:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I suppose so. I'm afraid the gig doesn't stick out in my mind a whole lot, but I remember enjoying it well enough.

Bimble, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 05:34 (sixteen years ago) link

If you "started" with "Isn't", and went backwards, album/single stepping, how far back until you'd say "this isn't them is it?"

Mark G, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 08:29 (sixteen years ago) link

"...the noise and feedback were bad rather than good..."

At the time, I definitely went with "good", but in hindsight "bad" would be the better description.

I hadn't been so physically assaulted by music since seeing the Beasts of Bourbon at Metropolis in Fremantle - when it was still called 'Cargoes'! The old timber floor of the band room proved highly conductive to Brian Hooper's bass in particular, with Kim Salmon and Spencer Jones' guitars not far behind.

I honestly thought my sternum was going to explode.

SeekAltRoute, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure they will not only do Coachella, but also other festivals in Europe next summer.

joanet vich, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha, they'll probably end up doing a "secret gig" at Sonic Cathedral. *Then* I could die happy.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:43 (sixteen years ago) link

"It's definitely happening"

ITS DEFINITELY HAPPENING
Don't call it a comeback: MBV

sanskrit, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I hope they *dont* do that long version of You made me realise.

Oh, I know, I know, you want to subject yourself and all that, to the coming-of-age ritual and all that.

It's just there's so much they could play in that time, why blot all that out w/15 mins of it? There would be more stunnage if they did the 3 mins 30 version. and ha.

Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I once saw a Crosby, Stills & Nash show where the power went out and they had to do the whole thing unplugged...would love for this to happen to MBV...

henry s, Thursday, 30 August 2007 17:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm going to continue to refuse to believe it is happening. More linx please.

Bimble, Saturday, 1 September 2007 00:42 (sixteen years ago) link

from mybloodyvalentine.net:

"Kevin's manager can only confirm that Kevin is currently remastering their albums as well as the rest of the Creation Records back a catalog I would imagine because this has been rumoured lately as well."

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 1 September 2007 01:32 (sixteen years ago) link

someone should break it gently to kevin that the process of mastering consists of a bit more than staring into space

electricsound, Saturday, 1 September 2007 01:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Hahaha.

two months pass...

Here we go again...

Via Pitchfork:

"...So what did we learn today? That My Bloody Valentine are indeed back together in some configuration or another. That they've recorded new material. That they have at least two releases on the way, one of which may very well come out this year. And, last but not least, that Loveless has a follow-up and IT WILL SOON TOUCH THE EARS OF HUMANKIND."

Z S, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Damn, I searched for My Bloody Valentine on the front page, not MBV. Disregard.

Z S, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:38 (sixteen years ago) link

wake me when its leaked

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link

"[The new album is] going to be this 96/97 half-finished record finished, and then a compilation of stuff we did before that in 1993–94, and a little bit of new stuff.

Not exactly a *new* album.

three handclaps, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:53 (sixteen years ago) link

it would have been cooler if they went all crazy like scott walker but i picture them going dull as dishwater like kraftwerk

electricsound, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link

This is not going to happen and we all know it.

IT WILL SOON TOUCH THE EARS OF HUMANKIND
i can't help myself but their concept of the word "soon" reminds me a little of christian eschatology. in the meantime (before judgement day) i think i will listen to their cover of "we have all the time in the world" again. a perfect swan song if there ever was one.

Amazon.com: Reviews for Loveless: Music: My Bloody Valentine

All Hype, September 7, 2006
Reviewer: Robert J. Bruce (Angola, New York United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this album because I am so into Sigur Ros at the moment and it seems all the reviews I read say that "...if you like Sigur Ros you will like MBV.." Let me say this album is no where near a Sigur Ros experience.

toby, Thursday, 15 November 2007 13:36 (sixteen years ago) link

i hope some US dates follow.

toby, Thursday, 15 November 2007 13:37 (sixteen years ago) link

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they played Coachella first.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2007 13:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think my ears could take it now. They barely could at 23.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 15 November 2007 13:44 (sixteen years ago) link

????!

baaderonixx, Thursday, 15 November 2007 13:47 (sixteen years ago) link

cw, Thursday, 15 November 2007 14:02 (sixteen years ago) link

if they do cochella i'll hold out hope for an SF date around the same time since Colm still lives up here

akm, Thursday, 15 November 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Unmissable.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 15 November 2007 14:22 (sixteen years ago) link

> I don't think my ears could take it now. They barely could at 23.

i have just bought a nice pair of ear plugs. not sure i could take the boredom of YMMR though...

koogs, Thursday, 15 November 2007 14:52 (sixteen years ago) link

So, London NedFAP in June 2008 then?

Matt DC, Thursday, 15 November 2007 15:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Astounding!

I'm pretty much willing to bet April show at Coachella at this point. In which case, I finally go to Coachella and y'all can fly out here instead. As it stands otherwise the lovely weak American dollar and all is giving me pause.

there will definitely be US dates (including SF) but Colm is living in LA at the moment.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 15 November 2007 15:09 (sixteen years ago) link

rumor has it that these will actually be all-acoustic sets
