Probably the least credible example for the "you're just jealous" argument. Used to mention Mark Owen as an example of a successful and popular man no one appears to hate, sadly that defence could now be fucked.

PaulTMA, Saturday, 20 March 2010 13:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I hated Mark Owen before it was popular to do so.

in work everyone LOVES this guy, they showed his jenson button sketch on our big screen at our end of day meeting last week. admirably one guy said "am i the only one who hates james corden", heroic and brave intervention.

such hate for him, such curiosity as to his actual appeal - what excuse did your colleagues give ronan?

I liked him quite a bit in Cruise of the Gods, tbh.

I thankfully missed the Sport Relief thing, but heard that it was pretty unpleasant. There's something really ugly about dishing out these (very, very unfunny) insults to people who have to 'take it in good part' cos it's for charidee.

I've heard via someone who worked with him in History Boys that IRL he is every bit as much a relentlessly boorish tool as you could imagine.

Dr.C, Monday, 22 March 2010 09:54 (fourteen years ago) link

Credit where it's due, I thought he was great as the voice of the mouse in The Gruffalo.

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 22 March 2010 10:00 (fourteen years ago) link

tbh, I don't really understand the hatred. I laughed a couple of times during the sports relief thing, although I admit I wasn't really paying attention, maybe he killed a kitten or something when I wasn't watching?

I think there's a consensus out there who now dislike him for the Kelly Holmes diss, where they previously liked him.

Way to go dude, and what a time to do it!

(tbf, I didn't see the bit, but was told about it)

That sounds like it's up there with Peter Kay fucking up Parky's last proper show. It's the "pretending to be a complete tosser but actually underneath I'm really a complete tosser" school of "comedy".

he can fuck off out of Dr Who as well.

Slumpman, Sunday, 6 June 2010 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I (controversial opinion ahoy) don't mind him as an actor, so am quite sure he'll be fine in Doctor Who, it's not like he's writing his own part or anything. (I remember saying this plenty re Catherine Tate as well, and that turned out OK all round)

Used to dislike Corden but recently watched all 3 series of Gavin & Stacey and really liked it and him (hides).

Chris, Monday, 7 June 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Gavin & Stacey is perfectly watchable but so gentle that I find it kind of infuriating.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 01:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I like the gentleness (if that's a word) of it. Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon the absolute best things about it.

Chris, Monday, 7 June 2010 01:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, Brydon's great in it.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 01:59 (thirteen years ago) link

But it always leaves me craving an episode of Peep Show or something to get the sweet taste out of my mouth.

The duo have teamed up to rework the 1984 Tears for Fears hit Shout.

The video for their unofficial anthem - called Shout for England - was filmed this week at the Stoop in Twickenham, home of Harlequins Rugby Club.

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 07:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Heard the song on BrGTalent final, thought it was trotting along merrily enough till this lump bounced out on stage. The chorus ending on "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" was a little o_O.

Am not enjoying living in the Corden (lad in the street)/Chiles (Man in the street)/C Cole (nations's sweet<3) era of UK.

tetrahedron of space (woof), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 09:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I just can't find it in myself to hate him (or Chiles or Cole for that matter - aand at least she's stopped beating up defending herself in nightclubs). They just don't get any reaction from me at all. Actually I found his pretend managing in the Football Aid match quite amusing.

I'm saving all my hate for George Osbourne, he seems far more worthwhile.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 09:36 (thirteen years ago) link

They put local radio on at work so loud I can hear it over my headphones. Fuck a Cheryl Cole and her songs about being in lol love with lol ashley being played once every half hour.

Chiles is aiight, shame I'll never see him again and I'll really start to miss him by the first motd2 I next see.

Corden should fuck off.

Yeah, really. We're not yet living in that post-hooligan utopia where it's okay to reclaim violent yob chants.

I'm also pretty shocked that they didn't try to rework the chorus lyrics AT ALL. How does "These are the things we can do without" make sense in a footbally context?

Slumpman, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 21:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Shout, Shout, let it all out,
This is the team that we care about,
Come on,
I'm talking to you - come on.

I think even this is better that leaving it the same.

He's so needy and smarmy, and clearly unfulfilled by his previously credible acting career to the extent he insists on becoming an all-round (lol, fat bastard) media celebrity scumbag. He makes otherwise sane people like my mother want to throw bricks at prams

James Corden and Sir Patrick Stewart clash on stage

Sir Patrick criticised Corden - host of the event - for standing with his hands in his pockets, adding: "From where I was sitting, I could see your belly."

Corden responded: "You could see my belly. I can see you dying right now."

Not okay to reclaim Tears for Fears either.

Robbie Williams (yes, other punchable cnut, I know) also reclaimed "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" for Millennium.

And Fat Les (yes, punchable cnuts, I know) to thread.

I sense a theme.

I get this, but people keep letting him! Why is that? Does anyone actually *like* James Corden, media gobshite?

Something about comics: they get really annoyed if someone else starts trying to make jokes on their patch, as if others need a zing permit while they are there.
