on first listen, its a fucking awesome record. the closing epic is, in the best way, green eyes pt 2.

somehow that cover is not that surprising

Surprising, no. Overwhelmingly awesome, yes, definitely.

it looks like a bad rave poster from 1995

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 18:11 (fourteen years ago) link

also, window seat isnt at all bad, but it does sound like she can barely be bothered with it. i get the impression she doesnt mind too much which seat she gets.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

eh no, she's not disinterested she's disillusioned imo

TNTiger: we know sexy (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 18:14 (fourteen years ago) link

how are you listening to it?

badu came to london today to play the record to reviewers.

aw beat de holy jasus.. (stevie), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

gotta second stevie. album is amazing, she is a genius &c &c. my notes for one song just say "couldn't write anything, song too gorgeous".

she wore some very strange baby blue capri pants, stiletto boots which looked like doc martens and a top hat, btw.

also, when asked when the thing would be released, she looked genuinely baffled and said something like, "i don't know, don't y'all have the internet now?"

shining for no apparent reason (The Reverend), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:20 (fourteen years ago) link

peeps that have heard it:

i have only heard the song on that's on her home page and "window seat"

i think they are good, but i really dug the awesome, weird messed up p-funk meets dilla type more hard hitting groove songs on the first new amerykah

are there more uptempo or midtempo ones? cuz the two i've heard are good but definitely meeeeelllooooow

snorgfaced germans (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:24 (fourteen years ago) link

its a pretty mellow set, all told. she said that this is her left-side-of-brain album, more emotional, less political. its no less awesome though.

I'm putting myself in the mindset that I can enjoy this album a lot even if it doesn't come with the raw like "The Cell" or "Twinkle."

queen frostine (Eric H.), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:34 (fourteen years ago) link

m@tt you shld also listen to 'jump up in the air (stay there)'

just sayin, Friday, 19 March 2010 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

sounds like it's gonna be a lot like 'mama's gun' which is great for me, bcz mama's gun is one of my favourite albums...

this:

you built a wall
a 20ft wall
so i couldn't see
but if i get off my knees
i might recall
i'm 20ft tall

reminds me a LOT of why I fell in love with 'Mama's Gun' to begin with.

The lyrics for each song, except this one, are printed in the booklet.

Each song has its own page. Beneath the title for this one: "(lyrics too terrible to write)"

agitation, produced by sa ra, is one of the gems on this album... has a real rotary connection feel to it.

That one fills the "Amerykahn Promise" slot this time right? Flat out track jack? (But a good one, nonetheless.)

ooh, i'm not sure - don't recognise the source, and there's nothing on the song-writing credits i have suggesting that
