ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:55 (nineteen years ago) link

well played, chris. I kinda knew it ws over when I told you on AIM "the queen is dead" but I thought I cda salvaged it, somehow.

cathy, I am playing the classic two-speed game. I am trying to... frustrate you.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Cozen, what happened?! How the hell did I beat you, you were crushing me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago) link

xpost. Still, I am not entirely sure what happened.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I am very frustrated.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:04 (nineteen years ago) link

it was hingeing around my pawn on e5 which ws being attacked by two of yours (queen & rook) and three (with the potential to four) of mine (queen, bishop, and rook) (with another rook to move up.) when I moved it up to check the king, you brought down your back-rank rook, took the pawn, and the queen's fate ws sealed. if I'd have kept e5, I probably would have went on to win. if that's unclear, we cd do a review.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Casuistry has just stamped all over my plans. I am as good as dead.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:08 (nineteen years ago) link

cathy, maybe you shd take up yahoo chess, as well? it is LIVE ACTION.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:10 (nineteen years ago) link

You should never have agreed to exchange queens, Cathy!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago) link

I know, I never thought you'd really do it! Hmm, yahoo chess....

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:20 (nineteen years ago) link

ow tht exchange of queens ws deadly. chris' queen ws marauding round the board fr a long while there.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago) link

But I was several pieces up, and was going to get your rook as well as your queen in the exchange. So hells yeah I'm gonna do it! But you get major points for moving your rook to the second row back then, that totally fux0red up my plans.

Cozen: I looked back and you're right, although even at that piont I think your position had slipped a bit.

Morley! Get in on chessic axxion! Are you back from your trip?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:27 (nineteen years ago) link

ambrose hanging on.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 21:20 (nineteen years ago) link

yes indeedy, but awful at chess :(

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:20 (nineteen years ago) link

(Ack, I still haven't sent you crap! Dammit. This weekend!)

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:22 (nineteen years ago) link

am i meant to concede? i guess i should, but i still hold on to the romantic notion that somehow i could win....

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:42 (nineteen years ago) link

dude I think that notion has passed from the romantic into the sublime.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:44 (nineteen years ago) link

you are about to enter into privileged realms of self-knowledge.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:45 (nineteen years ago) link

apologies, I've been reading too much edmund burke.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:46 (nineteen years ago) link

At a certain point, not conceding is telling your opponant, "There's still a chance that you're a total idiot!"

Anyway, someone else please challenge me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:29 (nineteen years ago) link

oi, ambrose is cool.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

I didn't mean it like that!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:34 (nineteen years ago) link

I know I know!

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:36 (nineteen years ago) link

You forget, I love everyone.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago) link

why?

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:54 (nineteen years ago) link

they're ok, RJG.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:58 (nineteen years ago) link

I mean, I like to hope think so.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 01:59 (nineteen years ago) link

At a certain point, not conceding is telling your opponant, "There's still a chance that you're a total idiot!"

hah. i'm not doing that though, chris, i just want to see how the endgame goes. though i've been thinking of just resigning...i am so so beaten.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I dream, that they are.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 19 March 2005 03:42 (nineteen years ago) link

I was surprised that you resigned! It's possible that you could have forced a stalemate, at least. I am not so good at endgames. But it was a good game! Rematch if you want.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 10:42 (nineteen years ago) link

I actually played two games of live chess tonight. While a bit tipsy. It was weird seeing actual pieces. I won one game and lost the other (at one of those slow endgames of attrition, where I was down two pawns, I got a bit bored and made a dumb mistake, but it was OK, I was going to lose anyways).

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 19 March 2005 10:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I have had not much internet access, lately, but this will change on Monday, promise.

Czn, why are you reading Burke? I owe you an email, it will happen.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 19 March 2005 20:16 (nineteen years ago) link

for fun, grvl.

cathy, have you played go? Go!!

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 March 2005 22:56 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm in: SundarS (at the same email I use here).

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:52 (nineteen years ago) link

(I kinda suck, btw.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 20 March 2005 03:08 (nineteen years ago) link

i think casuistry may end my winning streak soon!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 March 2005 17:47 (nineteen years ago) link

That was a very curious time to move that pawn forward, I think.

But I'm not sure, because I did not sleep last night.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 20 March 2005 18:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i made a mistake a few moves before that that has done the damage i think

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 March 2005 19:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Has anyone played Magnifico? He or she just kicked my ass in 13 moves.

Am enjoying the game with casuistry.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 20 March 2005 21:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Mr. Puzzleworth has lived up to his name! My hopes and dreams were thoroughly extinguished, and I walk the dreary rainy streets with no song in my heart to console me!

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 21 March 2005 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Great game Chris, thanks! Beat Ken for me, and we'll have some crazy pyramid thing going on or something...

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 21 March 2005 00:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Also, it's true abt the Cathy trash-talkin'!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 21 March 2005 00:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I've been contemplating the parallels between chess and kickboxing (chessboxin'?).

Smart setup, Chris. Well, at least it'll take you more than 13 moves...

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 21 March 2005 00:59 (nineteen years ago) link

sundar, this game is odd for some reason, ive never seen a row of massed ranks like yrs

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:16 (nineteen years ago) link

no one has beat me yet.

I lost to chris.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:40 (nineteen years ago) link

ambrose: Really? haha TS: I'm brilliantly inventive vs I have no clue what I'm doing.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I have an actual provisional rating now! I feel like I belong. Also it's in the 1300s, I should retire with this score, it can only go down.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 21 March 2005 02:41 (nineteen years ago) link

cozen play me!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago) link
