I can't decide if Renaldo and the Loaf should be under best or worst names. But I always imagine some fancypants Spanish dandy next to a steaming pile of poo. Maybe that was their intention.

No, it was the nicknames of the two band members.

Some more horrifying names: Ozzfish Experience, A.P.P.L.E. (which stood for something totally pretentious that's completely vanished from my mind--they were a political band), The Spam Grenades.

any band you like, taking their name out of familiar context, is usually dumb. Motorhead, Superchunk, Led Zepplin, Hawkwind, Mobb Deep, etc. Think about your reaction to someone on ILM telling you they were thinking of starting a band called Arches of Loaf or the Buzzcocks.

Really? I never understood what the word "negro" has to do with pasty-faced, pseudo-gay Norwegian rockers. Worst of all, the Turbonegro fan clubs around the world call themselves "Turbo Jugend", and they wear "Turbo Jugend" badges on their shoulders. Before I've heard of the band, I saw a guy with such a badge, and thought he was some sort of Neo-Nazi.
