i wish i watched lost so i could fully appreciate that joke -- oh well

from what i've read if the final scene of lost was the group doing a karaoke rendition of "tipsy" on the island (if they are still there) that it wouldn't be more ridiculous than some of the things that are happening this season

there's just a character named Jin-Soo Kwon (who I'm absolutely positive the writers named after J-Kwon) who his wife has been looking for for the last couple seasons

Lil Wayne jail sentence postponed after court fire

Rapper Lil Wayne's sentencing for gun possession has been postponed for a second time after a courtroom fire.

He was due to be sentenced on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty in October to charges arising from a 2007 arrest when a gun was found on his tour bus.

The fire at the New York state court complex injured eight people. It is not clear when he will now be sentenced.

Shots were fired, though no one was hit, during an altercation between groups affiliated with local rappers Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy that closed Walter's Clothing in downtown Atlanta for about 30 minutes.

The fight started around 4 p.m. Thursday when Mane's group walked into the store -- popular with celebrities -- and spotted Jeezy's associates, said witness Patrick Morrison.

"There was a physical altercation inside the location between several men," Atlanta police spokesman James Polite confirmed to the AJC. One of the men produced a weapon "and as a result a private armed security guard of a local entertainer discharged his weapon."

Polite said the security guard, employed by local rapper Waka Flocka Flame, has been detained.

The fighting was intense, witnesses said. "They just started going at it," said Morrison, a Walter's employee.

Waka Flocka Flame, aka Juaqin Malphurs, is a member of Gucci Mane's 1017 Brick Squad. His pseudonym alludes to the sound of cocking a semi-automatic pistol.

"Whoever he is he's got a big swollen eye now," Morrison said.

In January, Malphurs was shot in the arm while washing his car on Old National Highway. Police said he was approached at the Bubble Bath car wash by armed men demanding his jewelry.

Hip-hop heads have something big to look forward to on Monday (March 8), which is when T.I.’s comeback record, “I’m Back,” will officially hit the streets. The Atlanta rapper’s Web site, TrapMuzik.com, teased promotional artwork yesterday, announcing the record’s drop date.

“I’m Back” will be T.I.’s first song since being released to a halfway house in December 2009 after serving eight months in prison for felony firearm possession. The production duo behind the track, Trackslayerz, told VIBE the song sounds like classic T.I., circa early 2000s.

“This record right here kinda reminds me of the Urban Legend T.I.,” said Trackslayerz’s Price, referring to the rapper’s 2004 album. “But it’s from the point of when he got locked up. It’s no fall off [with] the lyricism. It’s like he’s completely focused. T.I. went extremely hard. He went in.”

His production partner, Inf, added, “The track is hard. It brings you back to the old T.I. It’s like a 'U Don’t Know Me' type track. It’s pretty hard. He’s coming back with the aggressive, mean kind of swag. It’s definitely a [street single].”

this is gonna by far be the biggest show i ever played in my music "career"

oh word? that's cool. what's your group?

get lupe to do some joints off of the revenge of the nerds tape imo

zvookster, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 17:17 (fourteen years ago) link

zvook - i'm not really "in" it, but i play bass and currently am in the backing band of Unknown Prophets....they've been around for a long time in Minneapolis, kinda came up with Atmosphere, Bro Ali, Musab, Abstract Pack 90s Twin Cities underground/backpacker circles

(i'm not on the records just play shows with them)

Wait, the unknown prophets with Keith Knight?

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 17:47 (fourteen years ago) link

forks - i don't think so? who is keith knight? no one by that name in it now...

their first album is considered kinda classic early mpls underground in some circles...their most famous song is "Never" with Slug...first album also had an early appearance by Brother Ali

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GCt3yjYeas

anyway they sound a lot different than this now, lots more live instrumentation and whatnot which is why they have a backing band live...

Deuce Bigalow: Male Juggalo (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

oh, my bad; he's with the marginal prophets.
Congrats Matt!

and by ipod i mean itunes since i don't actually own an ipod

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 March 2010 19:19 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't listen to the albums tbh. too saccharine, too wimpy, too cynical in their pandering, plus like u say he comes off kind of annoying. "kick push" is ok if yr in the mood, but the only track i really play at all is "steady mobbin'" (or "ghetto story") from the leaked version of the debut which is both dope & pretentious on a socially conscious tip (also quite saccharine, with the strings going).

the tapes are cynical too but he's much better throwaway on stolen beats & he's targeting a rapnerd demograf, or striking tough poses like on "Lupe the Killer", or how he's he's "sittin' sideways" on "Clean" with disclaimers for gangsta reportage. so these are pre-debut exercises just like he flips between gangster & teacher on "Switch". kind of interesting. thx 4 the album tracks u like since they could get rescued from sitting around dusty taking up hard disk space. (tho iirc i find daydreamin, superstar, paris, tokyo all just ok)
