yes, Classic. Natalie Maines especially classic (and kinda hot).

re Dan's post above, it's possible I'd like their bluegrass stuff better than their heartland pop-rock, but I'd rather a bluegrass band go songform and get huge because it's fronted by the new Madonna (Shania is Michael J maybe, with equal sex appeal) rather than stay another little bluegrass band, albeit an all-female one

I am not a fan, but I am glad they exist, and are popular.

I feel the same way about Ani DiFranco.

Had they broken into the mainstream with their bluegrass stuff, they'd be a classic.

I didn't like them at all until I heard "Home", which is less slick, more acoustic/bluegrassy and a decent enough listen if you're in the mood for that. Some of the songs are kinda corny, but that goes with the territory...
I have no desire to hear their other CDs, especially the one with that godawful annoying "Goodbye Earl" on it.

Okay, so that riot grrl comparison was insane. But still: most undeservedly one-sided C-or-D thread ever. Anybody feel differently now? (Frank?)

i like the new single. i like the pissed-offedness, and it's catchy too.

I like the new Bush piss-off single, sorta good-Tom Petty meets pissed girl pop. Plus, they're all wearing black leather. What's not to like?

Great then, great now!

Jeez, Louise, why the frack are people not babbling hosannas about the new CD?

I mean, people talk about Jenny Lewis and here we've got the real deal in Natalie, singing like a velvet flamethrower with Rick Rubin Cashing the production and where's the love? Hello?

i like the album pretty well. it's a little on the dull side, music and melody-wise, but i need to listen to it more. there are some very nice tunes, and some great lines (the description of the "crucifix skyline" in lubbock). it'll take a squad of rihannas going bananas to keep "not ready to make nice" off my singles-of-the-year list.

That's some song, isn't it.

I think you'll find it grows on you. "Voice in My Head" is gorgeous; "Baby Hold On" has a chorus that reminds me of ELO but I'm weird.

And damn--that girl can *sing*!

n. maines is NOT HOT - wtf? unless you think sharon gless is hot.

they should do something with mellencamp, Tim mcGraw & all the red state anti-bushites, some sort of We Are The World-style hootenanny.

She's not supposed to be hott--she's supposed to be Natalie.

What a hilariously horrible thread.

"Travelin' Soldier" is killing me today; it's perfect in every way, the singing, the playing, the song's twist that's so obvious from the start & yet pow! each time it comes.

Euler otm

"Not Ready To Make Nice" is the one's that knocking me out today. And the "Daddy Lessons" remix.

"Gaslighter" is so good. it is KILLING me that she says "you broke me" because it's a flip from the pose of "Not Ready To Make Nice" and yet comes out feeling even tougher.
